I have tried natural remedies such as flower therapy and some dog tranquilizers but this is constant and she only weighs 5 lbs.
Can anyone recommend a treatment?

Take her to parades with bands to help desensitize her. Animals are scared of things that have no source. They can not tell where those noises originate and if you give her something to assimilate such loud noises it helps. ANother thing is for you not to react to her reactions. Don't do the oh poor baby that makes her think there is a reason to be scared.

It is a case of a genetically weak nerve dog. There is not very much you can do about it. That is the way they were born, and they will be like that their whole lives. The last 2 members were correct in pointing out that you do not want to do anything that will exacerbate that behavior, and that includes holding them, cuddling them, etc. I know that you are providing a home for these dogs and that you are doing the best you can to take care of them, but, and I am approaching this very gingerly per ihateint, suggestion, have you ever thought what would happen to a human were he this way? Where would that human be? I have thought about it and I would never want to be a dog that lives in constant fear of any noise around me and I am always scared out of my mind. That is not a life. Think about it.

My dog does the same thing, I don't know any home treatements or any treaments @ all. Instead I just take her and cuddle with her and talk softly to her and tell her it'll be all right. Baby her in my lap, arms, or on the floor @ times. I also take her away from the windows and go to a neutral spot where the noise isn't as loud. That's all I know what to do to calm her down. Perhaps there are some treatements available, but I prefer to stick with what I do because it brings us closer together.Good Luck though.

You need to make sure that you aren't encouraging this behavior. Ignore her entirely when she starts freaking out. Petting her and "consoling" her are just going to make her think that she's correct in being freaked out.

When you're training a dog, one of the rewards for their behavior is attention and affection. If a dog receives your attention and affection for a behavior, then they will think that the behavior is correct. If you're rewarding it, it must be what you want!

First of all, ignore your dog completely during these instances....show your dog you;re not concerned so neither should they be. If you pet the dog when it's being concerned you're reinforcing the behaviour.....any behaviourist will tell you this.

Ask your Vet about a product called DAP.
