My computer will only start in safe mode now. So from safe mode I started to reinstall windows XP. The program started installing a portion of it and then rebooted. But since my computer will not reboot in normal mode the computer is just recycling throught the boot process and never actually doing anything. When I hit F8 and force it back into safe mode I got an error message that Windows XP can not install in Safe Mode and automatically reboots. What do I do?

Ok have done this before, but this is for a PC with not much stuff in it so follow alog kid...
Step one.
Boot in safe mode
Step two.
Back up your files by burning the to CD's (You should be able to burn CD's in safe mode
Step three.
Pop in the Windows XP Installation CD and then reboot
Step four.
At the screen when your computer loads before the thing that says "Microsoft Windows XP", like in a Dell PC as soon as you turn it on you should see the Dell logo. Then during that time quickly press F12, for other PC's it may be F2 or F11, maybe F1.
Step five.
Select option number 4 or 5 it's something about CD-ROM IDE device or something like that.
Step six.
A blue screen should have come up and it should read

Windows XP Professional Installation
===========================
setup is loading, please wait...

Loading files kernel.ini

or something like that. Follow those steps in the installation, it should take like an hour.
Step seven.
After you have installed Windows XP you will need to install the drivers for better picture and better sound. With your PC you should have gotten a CD that reads Drivers or something like that, there may be some extra stuff there. Install them (ALL) If you don't have the CD just call you PC's company and ask for one, or go online and download the drivers, in the search box at you PC's company website (e.g. www.dell.com) type "Drivers" and then look for one that says downloads and drivers.

Well hope that helped!

Reinstalling windows may not be enough. Insert your manufacture disk and do a reformat. You will lose all information in the computer. It will put it back to how it was when it came out of the box.

Better you format and reinstal the OS. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
