i believe you can. i myself met a person on line about two and a half months ago and we've been talking ever since. In that time you can't become a really close friend with somebody of course but he has called me a friend twice and i trust him.
These things happen. You might meet a few "wrong" people before but that doesn't mean you should give up looking.
Good luck with everything!

Yes, I've found REAL friends through chatting and emails. We've been friends for at least 7 years and some have met in person. We're there for each other. I love them with all of my heart! They're like brothers and sisters to me, and they're NOT weirdos at all!
But you need to be careful in choosing a friend, there are too many weird people online. It took us a few years before meeting in person, so we have known each other well enough before that.

*hugs* If you are lucky like myself, you will be able to find a real friend on the internet. But, you have to be really careful. Take call precautions.

I met my best friend from the internet during my university days. And i was there during his good and bad days, and vice-versa. I was also there during his wedding, and is now a god-mother to his daughter.

An online community site is the best bet, much easier to get an idea of who you're talking to. Then you can decide when you're comfortable enough with the person to meet offline.

Sorry, but I wouldn't count on it. From what I have seen, the anonymity that the Internet provides just allows people to be their worst.

I doubt it. I don't think that anyone online is "real". They can hide behind the technology - and tell you what you want to hear. (a reminder that you shouldn't believe everything that you read)

Yes, it is possible, but be careful, you don't know who you are dealing with, until you actually associate with them in person.
