all over the candle holder it is in. I mean the candle holder gets totally messed up and I have to spend an hour to clean off all the wax stuck on it now. Isn't there a candle holder that is made specially for candle sticks so that the wax melting doesn't go on the table and the table cover? It's this time of year where we put a lot of candles around the house and my floors are all wax. Help...

Try spraying your holder with Pam or another non stick spray. When it comes time to cleaning them if there is any stuck to the holder, just soak it in hot water and the wax pops right out. You need to trim your candles if they are burning unevenly. If there is any wax on your table cover, take a paper bag and lay it over the wax, then take a warm iron and iron over it. The wax will stick to the bag.

I don't know of any special holders, but just think about how long you plan on burning them and pay attention to them. If they start to get full, blow them out and dump some of the wax.

I love jar candles. They give out the same amount of light and no mess. Plus they tend to have a stronger sent. Tea lights and floating candles are very pretty too. With jar candles though, to keep them to burn evenly, just remember that when you light them you need to burn them at least as many hours as the jar is wide. If the jar is 3 inches wide, burn them for at least 3 hours to get the wax to not cake up on one side.

Put your candlestick holder in the freezer, post-meltdown. Leave it for a couple of hours and the wax will crack right off of the holder - no mess.

I like to find odds & ends placemats and drink coasters at Pier one and Crate & Barrel. Usually when they have 1 in stock they'll mark them down dirt cheap. Use these under your candles to avoid massive meltdown.

"Tower" candles, usually burn to the inside, as the thickness of the candle disallows heat to the perimeter.
"GOOD tapers" burn up because of the substances used, that are designed to be no drip.
One answer suggests "plates" and certainly that's valid.
