Most churches preach from passages that point to living a clean, moral life through Christ. Some never leave the NT. Others will go to the OT for lessons on leadership, or the faithfulness of Joseph or Daniel.
There is nothing wrong with that.
What benefit is it to preach on Noah getting drunk and his grandson being cursed for what one of his sons did?
Most churches use instruments in praising God. Some have a full symphony orchestra and a choir of hundreds.

Sure they do, this is one reason why I do my own Bible research. Some churches in this day and time need to teach on the second coming and about Hell. The saints should be passed what it takes to get to heaven and Jesus loves me this I know. What about what God will do if you don't obey him and keep his commandments? What about what will happen if your name is not found in the Book Of Life? We should be teaching from the New Testament and getting ourselves ready for the Lord. True, you still have to run reference back to the Old Testament especially when teaching on prophecy. The Bible is full of goodies that will make you run to the alter but that means the preacher & the saints, have to study... and now days most churches skip around finding the easy topics to teach about. I always tell people to do your own research or get a good teaching manuel or simply ask your minister to teach on certain topics like I use to such as Demon Possession in the world today etc... or The underground departments of Hell. Knowledge is powerful. Praise the Lord!

I don't know that I would say "tip-toe around", but my church does focus on the things that are most important and helpful for living everyday life. Unless the message was on the dangers of drinking, that Noah got drunk once probably would not be of any practical help. Won't pay the bills, or strength my marriage, or aid in discipling my kids or living a pure life.
With a book that has over 3.6 million words in it, it is unlikely that everything in the book is going to get talked about at every service. If you were to do nothing but read the Bible at the rate of one word a second, it would take over 4.1 days to get from cover to cover. Assuming a 15 minute sermon, once a week - that would be about 32 hours a year of message. So at that rate, assuming that they did nothing but read the book - not comment or preach - the passage on Noah would be reached once every 3.2 years. Add any kind of preaching or commenting to that, and you can quickly see that it is going to be impractical to expect every Bible subject and verse to be covered on a weekly, or even monthly (or yearly) basis.
That is one of the reasons why Christians are suppose to be reading and studying the book on their own daily. That frees the churches to be able to concentrate on the more important subjects in the limited time they have.

Let's see. I'm an individual and individuals make up the church so...no, I don't skip around some topics. Some are for different purposes than others like historical accounts necessary to know so the rest of the accounts fit. In proper prospective, things done in the old covenant reveals the unfolding saga of God's relationship to man and vice versa and man's progression towards God or his backslidings and God's faithfulness as He reveals more of His character as time progresses to those who seek to do righteousness. One thing all the old patriarchs had in common was their humanity and their faith in God's word and character as well as providing well for their families and being generous to others. God's enemies were their enemies. All things considered, we've come a long way baby! You can see why they use to teach school out of the Bible because all things good or bad man can do or think of doing are going to come up.

I believe most do. Some teach on the same topics over and over.
But there are a lot of other churches that get down with it the real deal. I like those.

yes... i love my church.. but it's just not a good one.
i would like to go to a church that goes more in depth with the Bible, so i can have more faith in him. BUT i go to a korean american church, and i don't speak that much korean. so i guess it could be because i don't understand that well. there is a translation thing though. Another problem is that the sermons are really boring. No offence.

Evil has worked its way into everything, even the church.
And they have doctrines of devils, like read only the Bible
and nothing else. And everything is a mystery, and you
can't understand it so don't even try.
Too many use Scripture to justify their personal doubts
and fears. But it can't be done, because the Word
is about overcoming doubt and fear.
