Yes, use the heat protection spray then the straightners, most are heat activated.

Let the protection spray set a little while before you use your straightner it's always wise to prep the hair with protector before any kind of straightening weather chemical or other.

I always left my heat protection spray dry slightly first otherwise the wetness of it makes a kind of hissing noise when the straightners touch the hair, almost like you're "frying" the hair. I'm sure this can't be very good for it, though I could be wrong.

Depends what the instructions say on the bottle-i have some to put on wet hair then leave to dry and one you spray on right before you straighten.

Yes but make sure you comb in the spray first, otherwise you will here a crackling noise as the straightners touches the spray in your hair and that can only mean it's burning it.

don't over do it on the spray and comb through, hssing is bad so if it hisses stop and wait till it is dry on hair.
By the way I had one of those Beliss hair dryers that straighten for Crimbo, or lordy its so much easier now!
