I know there are phones that display caller id but what I would like to do is programme the phone so it will show me the name of the caller instead of the number. I have a long list of callers and sometimes the caller has rung off before I have had chance to identify them.

What you will need to do Frank is buy any phone that does caller ID then sit and put all your numbers in the phone book. This is the only way the name, rather than the number, will come up.

Alternatively....just answer the damn phone! Are you trying to hide from some people?

If the caller has set the 'private number' function on, then there is no way that you will be available to find out who is calling you. It's annoying, but we have to live with it. If they haven't got the 'private number' function turned on, all you have to do is enter their number in your phonebook, and their name will come up in phone calls and text messages instead of the number. You can buy a phone which was made in 2003 and it'll do this.

A phone with caller-display will this. You have to enter the names of all your contacts along with their numbers. It will show the name of the caller, providing they haven't withheld their numbers.
