plan the wedding two years ahead. That gives you breathing room. Better yet, don't get engaged untill you know all his quirks, faults, bad habits, etc. Also, you need to see how he responds to all kinds of situations, like if he has a temper, or drinks heavily if he's depressed.
I guess what im saying is, only fools rush in.

Only you know if it was the right thing to do. If he asked you I would presume he was serious but dont rush into anything.

short term relationships rarely work. he probably doesnt mean it, but i suppose it depends on the situation at the time.
