Ok, if I start bike riding with my mountain bike from Laguna Beach all the way down on california coast highway, all the way south to the tip of Chile and Argentina, how many days will it take me to get there? How much money will I need for this voyage? and How risky is it?

hey there ive asked myself the same q but the other way around -santiago, chile to california. ok, so theres 8983 kilometers or 5582 miles from los angeles to santiago according to timeanddate.com. thats a linear distance so lets just consider double that distance on the road --19,000kms or 11,000 miles. now, whats the avergae speed u do? in my case that would be 30km per hour, plain. when uphill its anywhere between 9 and 16km/hr. so lets just assume ur gonna make like 20km/hr. now, how many hours a day can u be on that bike? given that its a long journey lets say its 8 hours a day, meaning that ur gonna make 160km per day. if the distance is 19,000 km thats 119 days on the go or 4 months. are u able to do that?
about the costs, that depends on where ur sleeping. u can get a room and shower on the road for like $60 in the us. consider its half in south america, mexico included. thats almost $3,600. add a similar figure for food. costs are rising to $7,200. plan to get a medical insurance too and money for repairing and all that. if ur not getting any sponsor, i think u should start getting about $10,000 for a one way trip.
now, is it safe? ud be travelling through mexico, which isnt very safe in its rural parts. then ud be crossing central america, which only until recently was plagued with civil wars. then to colombia!! now, have u heard about the guerrilla there? then to ecuador and then to peru. have u heard about drug traffickers there? and the guerrilla of some years ago? then theres chile, a safety haven in latin america but then quite unsafe too id say if ur travelling alone through unpopulated areas like the atacama desert, the driest in the world but also so isolated that 30 years ago it was used to hide communists weapons and bury the dictatorships victims. sounds appealing? not to me. u better fly and bring ur bike and do the nicer routes. ud be saving a lot too.
