I am biased and will say dobies, but that's simply because that is what I have. I don't think either shows more affection and is more loveable than the other and they are both extremely loyal breeds. Dobies are known as velcro-dobes b/c they always want to be w/ you whether you're doing dishes or going to the bathroom, I'm not sure if rotties are the same way. Although very similar in these respects, they require different exercise. Dobies can go all day long and have loads of stamina/endurance. Rotties are very strong and love to have a job to do, as do dobies, but rotties were bred to pull carts. It all depends on the type of personality you'd be looking for. Being biased, I'd say dobies are more easily trained (they're also ranked higher than rotties if you look up a list so maybe it isn't a bias for me to say that).

I've never owned a Rottie, but I have 5 dobermans ranging from 9 wks to 12 yrs. None of them have ever "turned" on anyone.
A friend of mine had a huge male rottie. He was a very sweet boy, I don't think he ever met a stranger. Her female on the other hand could not be trusted.
Being a doberman owner and knowing how my own dogs are, I'd have to say doberman.
If I didn't have any dogs and was choosing between a rottie and a dobe, I wouldn't rule out a male rottie.

Both are lovable & affectionate. The Rottweiler is a little more serious minded & tends to have stronger territorial/guarding instincts, while the Doberman is more playful, and a bit more active.

I'd go with the rottweiler. I love them. Almost any dog will be lovable and loyal.

First of all any breed can turn on its owner so please dont believe the hype and as for which is best well that depends on your needs and ability to care for whatever dog you purchase.Do you want a protection dog?If so,then it must be properly trained and great with kids and other pets not just dogs.If you buy a rott will you be able to meet the financial needs because a rott's care is one of the most expensive in the dog world and typically a shorter life span than lets say a dobie, boxer or am bulldog. How will your family play in the growth of this dog especially children and it as important to train yourself on proper dog handling and you must be consistent because he/she will not be the perfect pet overnite if ever so answer those ?s and then find a respectable breeder with great lines and temperment.Good luck.

Rotties are supposed to be really good dogs, I also know someone who had a Doberman that turned bad when the dog was around 5 or 6 years old, I noticed someone else mentioned the same thing.

I myself think dobermans are best . I have owned them for about 8 years now and I also foster them . They are a smart loving breed . They love to be near their owner . They got the nick name velcro dog for that reason .

The best dog I ever owned was a rott/dobie cross. She just recently died from pancratic cancer and it has been very hard. Even our vet agreed that she was the perfect dog. Very loving, gentle and affectionate. She had a terrible bark but never was aggressive toward anyone. I wish I could find another one like her.
