I have two cats, Squire(Full name is Squire Gingivere. Cute, huh?) And Patches. While Squire is an affectionate cat, and the elder one, Patches tends to like to be affectionate when she wants to. Not that that's a bad thing.

But I'll go to bed and she'll jump up and walk around for a moment, and curl up. In the morning, I'll start to wake up, and she'll walk over and start trying to scratch my face.

And I'll admit, it's funny sometimes because she'll stop for a moment then try to do it sneakily. But she won't take the hint that I don't like it. I had a scratch across my eye for a few days and it hurt like mad.

Is she trying to play with me or what? Is there any way to make her stop or at least not do it so often?

Thanks!

Please, please, please do not declaw your cat. It sounds like she is just playing with you. If it's a real problem, lock her out of your bedroom (they don't need to be with you every hour of the day), or get Softpaws, like someone else has suggested. Having your pet's nails torn out for something like this is criminal - I wouldn't recommend going to that extreme.

She's more then likely playing with you, but all the same, I wouldn't be happy if my cats were trying to scratch my face. You could try using Soft Paws so that she can't scratch anything, or trim her nails back so that it won't hurt when she paws you. I personally would keep my spray bottle by my bed, and give her a spray when she goes for the face. She'll learn that she doesn't like being wet, and stop.
