I'd say you don't have the time to designate to an animal right now. And a chihuahua would be a bad idea. I have one, he wants to be with me all of the time, he barks like crazy at every person that walks by my apartment. I am lucky enough to stay at home though, so he isn't alone very often. And with your work schedule you wouldn't be able to potty train very good, and your dog would more than likely be ited up or crated 11 hours out of the day. That's no fair.

Oh mercy if you want a dog that doesn't make noise do not get a chihuahua. They bark a lot. And they need companionship. We had to get another dog to keep ours company while we were gone and now they are best buddies. We love our chihuahua just like she is our child and they bond with you and they protect you to. All chihuahua's are nervous and hyper but if they love you they really love you.A poodle is a great dog to have in the house because they are good natured and they don't shed.

First off, I have a Chihuahua and for some of these people to say that they are the worst breed of dog to potty train is just rediculous. My dog refused to potty on potty pads. She does an excellent job of pottying outside. I think it all depends on how much time you can offer to your dog so they can take advantage of pottying outside. As for Chihuahua's being loud....it all depends on how they are trained. Mines not a barker unless somone knocks on the door and then after they come in she is ok. Barking is just something she associates with somone knocking. With you being gone most of the day I recommend that you do not get such a small breed of dog because for one they get attached easily and can become very depressed without company. They also tend to not eat if they are depressed. When they don't eat they can have a drop in their sugar levels and become very ill. I recommend a dog that can handle u being gone for long periods of times.

For any dog I would say that being gone for almost 12 hours a day doesn't seem fair to the dog. I don't know much about a Chihuahua (link provided), but you have to remember that all dogs need love, care, and attention. If you come home @ 7:30 will you be willing to spend money on a dog walker? Be willing to come home feed the dog and then take the dog out and play with the dog for hours? I don't even know a dog that spends that much time a lone. I know it sounds rude, but I had to say something, because I live in an apartment myself and have two dogs, but I am home most of the day to take care of them. Or when I'm not home I have to make time to come home for a few hours to play with them, walk them, feed them, etc or even make my schedule around having dogs so that they are not alone for more than 4-6 hours a day.

With the hours you work, you shouldn't get a dog, specially not a chihuahua. A chihuahua needs to be with their family/person. It would be much too lonesome being alone 11 hours a day. It would be destructive and they bark a lot.

Chihuahuas are very good pets but they are the terrible barkers. And they don't like to be left alone.

I have a Chihuahua, she is a noisy little thing, and is SO incredibly attached to me. I can't go anywhere without her. I don't recommend that kind of dog unless they can be with you most of the time.

Chihuahua's are the worst dogs in the world to toilet train, if your getting a puppy then no its cruel and completely out the question unless you can find someone to feed it 4 times a day! a adult might be okay but do you think it would be fair to lock a dog up for nearly 12 hours?

That's a long time for any dog to be left alone. I grew up with Chihuahuas and they are great dogs. However they can be terrible barkers and are one of the hardest breeds to potty train. They don't require alot of space so the apartment would be fine, I would just think about the hours left alone. If you are a true animal lover that would be my first concern. Is it fair to the chihuahua?
