I have a habit of always popping my finger and I used to think it causes arthritis till I read in many articles that it's not true. here is 1 of the articles i once came across
Popping your knuckles or clicking your fingers is not as bad as you may think. The usual argument is that it causes arthritis but research shows this not to be the case. Like anything when done to excess, other types of damage may occur with such things as stretching of the surrounding ligaments and a decrease in grip strength.
The sound is produced in the joint when bubbles burst in the Synovial fluid surrounding the joint.
The gas itself is always there but dissolved in the thick clear Synovial fluid. When you pull the joint you decrease the pressure therefore reduce the amount of gas the liquid can hold. This is called cavitation and is the same thing as what causes the bends or bubbles to appear from nowhere when you open a bottle of pop; a decrease in pressure reduces the amount of gas the liquid can hold.
After a pop the gas should take half an hour to re-dissolve again so, until this happens, you will not be able to repeat the noise in that joint no matter how hard you try!

Yes. Poppin the knuckles causes trauma to the ligaments which keep the joints together. Overtime, with continuous 'popping', they become weak and causes arthritis.

Why pop them. Why does the air pockets bother you? It is more of a habit than anything. What is required here is a change of habit. Plus, it is a nasty habit anyway - like biting finger nails.

This bad habit is a form of nervousness.

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.

If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.

Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.

And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.

I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.

It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.

Today, I want to do the same for you!

I'm not sure what you mean by clicking, but I know that there has been evidence that popping your knuckles does not cause arthritis in the long run. Hope that was what you were asking...

Yes, clicking your fingers may cause arthritis. The reason being that when you click the finger you are causing bones to move in an un natural way which will aggravate the cartlilage between the bones, maybe causing its degredation - this being a basic cause of arthritis.

It does NOT cause arthritis. I imagine the tale started as many others do, just somethign to tell children to make them stop because it is an annoying soudn to some(although I do pop my own lol). Something like there's a boogie man uner teh bed so tehy will stay in it.

Clicking (as rubbing you middle finger against you thumb to cause the slapping sound from your palm, no.

Cracking your fingers (bending them in certain wasy to make them crack) does cause long term problems.

Crackign your nuckles has nothing to do with your bones. What you are doing is releasing the gas from the gaps in your fingers, and causing the cracking sound.
