My adopted son who is 11, has a skin issue. Where we live its very cold and packed with snow. Ever since Winter came around my son has skin that feels very rough and dry, feels like it has no moisture in it.

I have gave him a bath every day but that has done nothing. His whole body is dry and rough like this, his arms, legs, thigs, back, just about everywhere.

Its not a different colour skin or anything. I am only 27 year old mother and I have no idea what I have to do with this, please give me some info.

First of all, giving him a bath will dry him out. If you do , you have to apply some lotion in the minute after getting out of the tub. Eucerin is used in many hospitals for just this purpose. It is expensive, but in winter months it becomes necessary because of the issue you have above.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is NOT in your best interest to rub the lotion completely into the skin. Rather, you put some on and leave the skin wet with lotion, then cover the person (your son) with PJs, and socks. That way, the lotion is truly "absorbed" into the skin, allowing it to truly work.
You can also reapply the lotion several times a day. That will help a great deal...remember not to "rub it in", rather, let it soak in.

You may also consider seeing a doctor, just to make sure that what he has is "just" dry skin and not some other skin condition.

Best of luck.

Bathing is good for keeping clean but may not help the skin to much. A good moisturizer is Environ or E45 cream although you may want to use something milder like coconut butter, cocoa butter or any general moisturizer. Personally I would put it on in the morning and at night. Being persistent and you should see some results

Why would you say adopted in there?

Water dries the skin out... so you are not helping there. In the baths you need to put in a packet of Aveeno Oatmeal to counteract the drying affects of the water. After his baths tell him to just pat dry with a towel so he does not irritate the skin or dry it too much and once he has patted dry he should put eucerin cream on the dry areas.

Bathing can dry skin even more. Have him wash with cetaphil soap free cleanser, and apply cetaphil cream or lotion within three minutes after getting out of tub. (pores will be open). Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Your doctor can prescribe a prescription steroid cream or ointment to apply if needed.

Hi, my little one who is six years old has an issue like this in the winter months. Her skin was so dry at one point, it started to crack in her creases, behind the knees, in her neck. The Dr. prescribed me with a special eczema cream called cortisone. It fixed her up. Its quite pricey though.

hey!
im a beauty therpaist so i know alot about skin. if hes dry on the body you should try using products from the dead sea. either dead sea mud or sea salts. leave the mud as a mask fro about 30 min or soak his body in sea salts for 30 min also. or u can do both. jus make sure he has no allergies. no 1 really ever does have allergies to dead sea products. u can also try olive oil as ur traditional moisturiser after he comes out of the shower. leave it overnight until hes next shower. if hes dry on the face jus try a light moisturiser with aloe vera. becuase he is young you dont wanna put anytrhing to drastic onto his skin. olive oil is great also. jus use it until he starts to heal.
