offer to take him to a dinner and a movie as friends and then tell him that you brought him there to let him know more than just dinner and movie, and let him know how you really feel.

Find a way to tell him otherwise he probably has no clue about how you feel. Tell him in private though in case he rejects you so won't feel embarrassed in front of friends
