There's this guy in my highschool who knows I like him so things have been kind of awkward between us now (like how I get really shy around him). He does stare at me sometimes and smiles whenever I pass by him. Does this mean anything???

Of course this means that he likes you. I understand that YOU like him. Then, what's the problem? As I realize, you don't want to make something to get acquainted first. Remember that he is shy too.
Next time he would try to talk - help him and say something too.
If he smiles to you - smile back.After some time he would understand that you likehim and would become less shy. New friends (especially of the other sex) are always interesting to acknowledge.

He is obviously interested if he is giving you looks and smiles just beware boys that age usually have one thing on their mind. don't let him like you too much too soon or he might not be interested too much longer.

it means that he's flirting with you but he's beating around the bush because he don't want to ask you out either.....but if you really like him then say "you found out that i like you, so what do you want to happen between us now" and then see what he says.....
