Saddam is now stating that his death is to be a sacrifice for Iraq and that God will treat him as a martyr. I am wondering how Islam see martyrs? Saddam's death is due to what he did in the past; killing thousands. In Christianity, people are claims martyr if they die for standing up for their faith. Will it only be Saddam that see himself as a martyr or will all Muslims claim this as well?

I am looking for respectful answers, if that's possible.

For the most part Muslims will not call him a martyr. However, there are factions in Iraq that most cretainly will because he does still have more supporters there than one might think. AND some will simply sieze upon his death as something that they can use for their own ends and make claims to hold him up as a martyr more to have someting they can use to justify their won agendas. ALSO there are other groups that are very strongly anti-american and anti-United Nations that will use his execution in an attempt to garner support for their cause and will flok to others claiming support simply becaus ethey want to gain alliances with those that they think will be of use in their own plans.

While these people will be few and far between, they DO exist and if left unchecked could be more trouble than one might think.

Sadam also thinks he is the reincarnation of a certain king in babylon.
but of course he will be seen as a martyr in some muslim eyes.

i personally think he was tyrant and a butcher and murderer. But then again The U.S. Cia and government leaders can fit into the same judgment and are probably guilty of greater crimes than his.
if only it is a few, there are still SOME who are guilty.

Some Muslims will see him as a martyr but only a minority of radicals however they will use it as an excuse for spreading even more terror and carnage-it's a mistake to provide them with a martyr.

Saddam a martyr, that is laughable. While Saddam is in hell, he and Hitler can compare notes together, and wonder why they're both there.

We can only say what we think. How Allaah deals with him is another. If he really and sincerily stood up for his faith, then Allaah will give him his reward. If he did it for other reasons, other than standing up for his faith, then he may have his punishment.
