I reluctantly took a tiny piece of the Melatonin pill (Less than 1/8) and it knocked me right out. I was very suprised since even Valium or Xanax has no effect on me. I slept great yet I am still concerned since I am already takin a SSRI in the morning which obviously is still in my system by bedtime. Is there a risk of Serotonin syndrome or too much melatonin. Serotonin go and and hand as serotonin will turn into melatonin at night or when dark. Although it did work I am still concerned for the safety. There dosnt seem to be nay research concerning this combo but common sense would indicate they dont go together. Am I wrong? Thats the best sleep I have had in years is that because I was boderline coma LOLOL

bd,
the dose you took was ssso tiny...i suspect that your falling asleep so quickly was due perhaps to power of suggestion. you gave yourself permission to relax. first of all...melatonin takes up to 3 hours to reach effect. secondly unless the pill you took was the size of a dinner plate....you wouldnt have had that response from it.
i am on an ssri and have taken melatonin and it works nicely and is very mellow. VERY mellow...and i am VERY sensitive to meds. both of my kids are currently taking 5 mg of melatonin before bed and thay both are on zoloft.the doc prescribed it as she considers it the safest method for kids. ( she= child psychiatrist)my kids are 13 and 15 yrs old, and obviously both struggle with some issues i wont get into here.
actually melatonin is not usually indicated for long term use...but instead as an aid to establish a sleeping pattern. once your body has gotton into a routine, you should be able to come off of it.
im no expert however, i am just telling you my experience. talk to both your doc and the pharmacist.
sweet dreams!

Melatonin And Ssri

I actually ran out of my xanax and lunesta once and my psychiatrist told me that taking the melatonin would be fine. I was on Zoloft at the time which is also an SSRI. I would think that it would be okay since my doctor told me that it was okay. There are some 24 hour pharmacies open that you could call though so I would suggest doing that for now so that you can have some peace of mind until you can talk to your doctor. Good luck.

Melatonin & SSRIs are fine together

I tried several sleeping pills while taking cymbalta. The sleeping pills are similar to xaxax in that they are hypnotics. I never felt that I had a restful natural sleep. Sometimes some Valerian or tea with Valerian works. I would talk with your psychiatrist. Tell him you like the herbal better than pharmaceutical sleeping pills. It is always important to be honest and upfront.

Your doctor may surprise you and say its okay.

Taking too many products with acetamenophine(APAP) in them will cause major damage to your liver down the road. Check the ingredient label on your Lexapro and if you still have doubts, call your doctor
