Yes, absolutely. As the other responders have said, you have to be 17 to earn your private pilot's license. I'm also fairly sure that you can do your first solo at age 16 (I'll have to dig out my FAA manuals and double-check that).

But I know for certain that you can start training at any age, just so long as you're tall enough so that your feet can reach the rudder pedals (which you'll learn more about after you start flying).

Unless you're a midget, that probably means you qualify. =)

Flying is interesting in that sense. Kids your age can't wait until they're 16 just so they can get their learner's permit and start driving. Most of them probably don't realize that they can fly an airplane before they can even start driving a car.

I took my first flying lesson at age 13 and was instantly hooked on flying. The only thing you have to worry about is getting mom and dad to give you the money to fly. ;)

Happy Landings.

You can start your flight training at any age, I started mine when I was 13, although you can not solo an aircraft until you are 16. So now would be a great time for you to start.

Also check out my 360 page, I am writing about the steps it takes to get your private pilots license.

It looks like some people as young as 9 have started flying. You may want to check out the Civil Air Patrol. This group is for teenagers interested in learning how to fly. You can get service points as the group assists with all sorts of civil functions. Plus you can get free ground school training

Yes you can start your ground schooling and do the written after you 17th Birthday. Some places will let you get instructed flight time at 16 also.

I love to fly..just haven't been able to the last years due to time and money.
Plan to get current again this spring.

You can start training as early as you want. Sixteen is a great age to start. You just can't get your license until you are 17.
