Docked tails are not accepted by the UKC or the ADBA for Pitt Bull breeder.
Ear cropping is just vain. They are painful operations that have no benefit to the animal whatsoever.
Tail docking, dew-claw removal, and cropping of ears was meant to prevent injury to the dog during a hunt. Today, there is no true purpose. Or, in dogs bred for entertainment in fighting, long ears and tails would have removed/shortened to prevent them being ripped off. Once again, as this type of fighting is animal cruelty and illegal in the US, it is unnecessary. Keep in mind that in Europe, ear cropping is very much frowned upon. In England, it is banned from shows. While the AKC stilI recognizes dogs with cropped ears, it will not be long before it too stops the practice.
Most vets will do it at 9-12 weeks because they are anestetised for it, and they need to have the cartilidege(sp) soft enough. Talk to your vet, they will beable to help plan a date.
Price for cropping ranges from $180-$300. You can find a list of vets who do crops listed by state HERE: http://www.cinemaboxers.com/vets.htm
The reason for the limit of age is because of the cartilage(sp) in the ear. when they are younger the cartilage hasn't hardend yet. if they croped after the cartilage hardends then it would hurt the dog more and it has less of a chance of working right.

The docking of a tail and cropping of the ears should be done when the dog is a puppy. If you are having the pet as a family then there is no need to dock the tail or crop the ears. As for being illegal in some states it might be true; however this state it's definately legal. The prices vary between vets and the area which you live.
I know my boyfriend's boxer has his tail docked, but the ears are long and he looks so cute with those ears (they're really soft). As for my min pin she has he ears docked and her ears cropped when she came to the shelter that I adopted her at. If I didn't adopted her that way and she came with her tail long and ears long probably would of kept her that was because it's cute.
If you are going to show your dog @ a dog show them it is necessary to do those things, but if you are not why bother.

Tails are usually docked by a vet by the age of 3 DAYS and dew claws are removed. I don't see many pitts with docked tails. If the breeder didn't have it done, LEAVE IT!
Ears cropping is usually done at 9-10 wks of age. Cost depends on your area. Here in FL it runs between $320 & $420. There is alot of aftercare, so talk to a vet and make sure you understand what is involved before you choose to crop the ears.

I have 6 pits myself and not one of them have cropped ears or a docked tail and they still look really cute. Not like that matters. This is how I look at it, if I don’t have cosmetic surgery why in the world would my dogs. I think the cropped ears make the breed look more aggressive something you should really want to stay away from. If you want your dog to stand out buy a studded harness or a pink collar, something like that. Leave the poor dog alone. The money you would spend on cosmetic surgery for the dog donate it to a local shelter or pit rescue.

what would mother nature say! Leave the poor dog alone! how about lets cut a bit off your ear and see how you look. Docking should only done when they are 2-3 days old or under surgery! ear cropping is just stupid. Docking has a reason is the dog is a working dog but ear cropping is has no reason just a fashion thing! Why would you want to spend money on something your dog could do without!

Ear cropping & tail docking is illegal in some states unless it's for therapeutic purposes. Therapeutic means a medically necessary procedure to address disease or injury of the dog’s ear or to address a condition that jeopardizes the dog’s health. There is no reason to do it otherwise. It is painful to the puppy. Yes, puppy. Just like a baby boy getting circumsized when they are too young too remember the pain!
Pitbulls look the BEST with floppy ears. Cropped ears & docked tails only make them look as mean as the general public already think all of them are. Please don't add to that mislead opinion of pitbulls.
Please Don't Do It!!

Definitely leave the tail and ears alone. I have a pit bull and he has 4 pit bull friends and all of them are natural. I love his big floppy ears. The tail knocks some stuff over sometimes, but it is worth it to see him wag it. The only reason people cropped the ears was to fight the dogs. Since your not going to fight the dog then don't crop the ears. If you want to see some pics of my dog and his floppy ears E-mail me and I will send them.

Their tails should have been docked no later than 4 weeks old. They tend to have thin tails so this is done to prevent lots of pain later in life. Cropping of the years should be done before they are a year old if you plan on doing it. Unless you plan on showing your dog in the US don't do it. It is a waste of time, money and an unneeded humiliation to your dog. It is so stupid that in many European countries it is outlawed.
I grew up with registered Boxers and we showed them. Sometime the cropping had to be redone because they wouldn't stand up. After the surgery their ears are braced and taped up to train them to stand up.
I hope this answers your questions and like I said if she isn't papered with a career as a show dog in her future, don't do it.

No, please don't crop the poor thing's ears. Its really cruel and I seriously don't think it would look good with cropped ears. To crop ears your pitbulls ears, he would have be be at least 5 weeks old, thought every vet is different. My friend had a pitbull's ears cropped at 13 weeks.
