The Holy Grail is just a dramatization. It is neither a point of doctrine or historically verifiable. The Bible doesn't tell us what the cup looks like, etc, and the cup itself certainly wasn't sacred. Jesus never said the cup itself was symbolic, he said the thing inside it was symbolic. The Holy Grail is just a symbol, and even IF it could be found it wouldn't be sacred. The cross, for example, is not sacred, it is not like the cross is holy or priceless; instead it was just an instrument to bring about some purpose. Same thing with the "Holy" Grail. Actually it upsets me in a way......... Jesus was talking about his blood sacrifice which brings us atonement, and then people start saying, "The Holy Cup, the Holy Cup".... The cup is worthless - his blood was priceless. The Holy Grail is nothing but an idol.

To me, the grail is not real--as in, it's not a real, material item in this physical world of ours. But it *is* real as an ideal... more importantly, as a journey or quest. The DaVinci Code was fiction, true. But the Arthurian legends about a cup from the Last Supper were also fiction--remember that the grail is never mentioned in the Bible, and it's nowhere near as old as the earlier Arthurian legends. My belief (and I've researched this sucker) is that there's something in humanity that wants to believe in a magical, sacred vessel. Pre-Christian pagans told legends about a goddess cauldron of rebirth, and then the world became Christianized and the legend morphed into a Jesus cup of spiritual healing, and now--as the world continues to change--the story is changing to include holy bloodlines and Mary Magdalene. I wouldn't say it's *just* a story, because it's got a lot of power for something imaginary--we can all envision a grail, as easily as we can envision Santa Claus or Captain Hook. But I wouldn't say either of them exist in this physical world of ours either.

A special effects pedal for guitar players made by the Electro-Harmonix company. Its a reverb unit.

The "holy grail" can refer to the best of anything, like the best car or the best guitar amplifier (what I'm familiar with). The actual "holy grail" originally referred to is the cup used by Jesus, and probably no longer exists, if it ever did in the first place.

I think the Grail is a concept

For some people its the cup of everlasting life. (Thank you Dr Jones Sr and Jr from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.")

They spend their lives trying to track it down to put it in a museum, to prove its real, to prove that Jesus and the last supper were real.
To put Solid "PROOF" on christianity when hte basis of christianity is faith on the unprooven.

To others (thank you, Hitler, for proving THIS point) its a idol to chase after for fame and fortune. Along the way, causing death and distruction.

There were SO many wars fought in the name of hte grail. Just man's excuse to maim others!

(Could we go slightly political and say today the "grail" is the quest for neverending oil overseas? We have no proof it exists, but some believe it does. And we're fighting wars over it!)

The Grail, to me, is a concept. Often a means to an end.

However-- Dan Brown's version is an AWESOME retelling of that tale and I think the way he combined many 'fables' and 'myths' to make a consise story is great!!
