I am a moderator on a weight loss message board and I want to motivate everyone to do a 2007 Weight Loss challlenge. Do you have any ideas on how to do a challenge like this online? Should I get people to post their weights online or just the amount lost each week? I know some people may be shy at posting their weight where everyone can see. Should I have people check in daily or weekly or report to me? Or should I form teams? Any suggestions would be great! Oh and I can't afford any prizes for the winners. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated. Thanks so much! :)

Post their weight or send it to you ,ask the group, keep it confident. At end of each week ,get the amount and use % .A person that needs to lose say 40# compare to one 100#.Water weight alone first few weeks will make big difference..Use percentages..then at end of month do the total. The best prize is reaching your goal and staying fit.Your health, your life, you will be happier..

Maybe you could figure out how much weight it would be if everyone reached their goal and you can create a graphic that shows how you're doing as a group.

Or what about for every pound lost, they put a pound of food (something like rice or beans would be good) in a box. After they reach their goal, they donate the food to a food bank.

A good visual for a pound is a pound of butter. Especially when you don't lose a whole pound one week. A half pound is two cubes of butter. It's easy to visualize.

Have you ever seen that exercise commercial where a person set up a video camera in the same place and taped themselves as they lost weight so you could see the weight falling off the person. You could do something similar with still photos. They could take a photo of themselves standing in the same place on the same day of the week and instead of sending in their weight, they send in the photo. You could save them in the file section of your group webpage. Each person could have their own folder. There are disposible digital cameras now that are pretty cheap. I've never used them but have seen them at places like Walmart.

For prizes, first place winner gets a healthier, stronger, slimmer body. So does second, third and so on.

Posting weights will be problematic. I used to be a weight watchers leader and people are very sensitive about their weight. You don't necessarily need to offer prizes. I found certificates for various achievements were just as well recieved. They would cost you nothing as you could e mail them to the members. If they told you their weight loss you could announce on the site the best weight loss for the week, month or whatever, if people didn't want to have their weight posted on the site you could post the percentage of their starting body weight or something like that.

Good luck.

seems like you would need to use a body mass index or something similar, because losing 20 lbs means a lot more to a smaller person than it does a larger person.
maybe you can chart in terms of percentage of their goal.
I would have them check in weekly. Daily would be a bit too frequently and monthly is way too long.
Just my opinions, for what they're worth.

Try starting an online site where they can logg in and it have charts...It would take alot of work. but you could end up being the next "biggest Loser" program out there...
