The F-15 Eagle is the number one air superiority fighter in the US arsenal. It's performance and payload capabilities match it's handling to far exceed the F-16 and even the F-18 Hornet. Its twin engines give it the capability of flying a perfect vertical ascent.

Don't get me wrong-- i've done activities involving the capabilities of both-- the F-16 and F-18 are both nice planes (edge going to the 18, IMHO), but the F-15 was always my best asset on the table... unless we were allowed to use hypothetical F-22s, which are the newest in air superiority

Well F-16 is more manuverable but most modern dogfights are one shot engagements, who ever notices the other first(has the better radar) wins.
F-15 has the advantage of being able to carry 2 more missles than F-16 although there are numerous variants of each.
An Isreali F-15 was able to land after a collison ripped off all but 2 feet of the starboard wing.

There is no simple answer. There are too many variables: Which pilot sees the other first? Altitude: Both aircraft have their best altitude envelope. Pilot experience and training? Each fighter pilot has slightly different talents and abilities just like every aircraft has its own best environment. The fighter is basically just a weapons delivery platform. It must be put into the proper place at the proper time. Aircraft are tools. Give me enough WWII era fighters and we could destroy every modern fighter on the planet. Every fighter has to take off and land. That's when they are the most vulnerable.

By looking onto stability, jet propulsion, hi-tech systems & weapons i would say F-16. But a dogfight ? i wonder how a jetliner can do that. Nevertherless as the advancement is concerned, F-16 is the best. (F-22 raptor is much more advance)

It would only be a lucky shot but more than likely it would be a draw being America has the finest combat pilots in the world !!!!!

screw that, give me the raptor. lol. well... i think the hornet has the upper hand as far as speed/manuverability, but i don't know how much damage it can take. the 15's a damn tough piece of metal. i'd stick with the 16 though.
