My adopted son who is 11, has a skin issue. Where we live its very cold and packed with snow. Ever since Winter came around my son has skin that feels very rough and dry, feels like it has no moisture in it.

I have gave him a bath every day but that has done nothing. His whole body is dry and rough like this, his arms, legs, thigs, back, just about everywhere.

Its not a different colour skin or anything. I am only 27 year old mother and I have no idea what I have to do with this, please give me some info.

Our skin tends to dry out in cold weathers. Our skin may peel and feel taut.

Taking shower may make matters worse as our body foam strips our skin off its natural moisture or sebum.

For the face, use a face moisturizer (like Oxy), while a body lotion can be used for the body. Also, use a "extra moisturizing" body foam to give the skin more moisture.

Try skipping the daily bath, and when he is in the bath, make it a quick one! It's easier for the skin to maintain it's moisture balance when it's not being soaked in water for long periods of time (it washes away the natural oils that protect the skin). A bath every second (or even third) day can only help!

Avoid antibacterial soaps, as they can be drying - try using a soap that says it's for 'sensitive skin'.

Ask your local pharmacist for the best moisturizer for extremely dry skin. They say right on the bottle "for dry skin".. you could also apply a thin layer of Vaseline after the lotion has been massaged into his skin (even if only to the driest parts - knees, elbows, feet, hands, etc.).

His skin will also need protection from the cold - from those nasty biting winds.. He also needs to be wearing 2 layers of clothes (on the top and bottom) aside from his jacket, mitts, scarf, hat, etc. ..so that when he's outside he can enjoy the winter months comfortably.

Good luck, I hope some of this has been helpful..! :)

You NEED to STOP using ordanary soap & similar products.Your Son Needs to be bathed in a bath with a special solution!!! In Australia,we have two very good Alternatives to soap prodicts,(one is called PINATARSAL) You bath your child in the bath with this solution in it,untill the condition calms down, then we have another product called (QV,skin Moisture,& other benefits),which is specially desighned to keep the skin condition maintained,moistured,clear,etc:-after the Pinatarsal has calmed the skin down,QV is especially desighned to work with pinatarsal,to keep the skin maintained!!! See your local Chemist & ask if there are alternatives like we have, you can also take your child to the doctor,& get advise & help,If your NOT satisified with this You can REQUEST your son to be Referred to a skin specialist!!! I do not know where you are from,so do not know what is available to you, where you live? I would MOST definitely be consulting your local pharmist, explaining your Son's Severe Condition,& let them give you the advise you are needing,TO me it sounds like you need to Use a product which will Moisture & Hydrate his skin, however,he may need a gentle Exfoilating to remove the build up of his VERY Hardened Skin. There are also some Nasty Autimmune Conditions which is NOT well reconised by Pharmists,or Doctors, which requires Specialist treatment & care.If you would like to know more re:- this, here is THE AMERICAN AUTIMMUNE RELATED DISEASES ASSOCIATION,INC.(http://www.aarda.org) Perhaps some information from them could help you??? Another Very Good Product which helps to rid the severisty skin & Moisture as well as Hydrate & repair the skin is The good old SorbolinE Moisturing Lotion,I use one for Sensitive skin, with Vitamin E, however again this is Australian made!!! Whatever you decide to use.Make Sure it is UNPERFUMED!!!!!I whish I knew where you live so I can help you with what Products are available for your son? If you cannot afford any or all of these things I have suggested,Good old Baby Massage Oil constantly massaged all over his body,Will over time help settle his condition down,& begin to Moisturise & rehydrate & help to Repair his skin.Another Good Product is unscented 100% Aloa Vera Gell,or better still the fleshy part from a Natural Plant.Another Very good Remedy is the (ORIGINAL MEDICINAL APPLE CIDER VINEGAR.) This is an incredible product,it cleans every part of your house,as well as can treat EVERY ailment a human can or does have,But Please Get the BOOK which tells & shows you EXACTLY how to use it for ? ailment/s.
All the best, hope I have helped guide you in what to do to help your son? Or at least given you some suggestions,& things to consider & think about. Some HOPE.
Sincerely Yours,
Shiara Lennon.

try not to give too much bathing or too much soap so skin won't be so dry. make sure he is properly rinsed after a bath to rid of excess soap residue and put lotion. I prefer Curel lotion it works very well on dry skin.
