I was married and had two children. I divorced and began a relationship with my ex husbands brother a couple years later. We also have 2 children, reside together, but are not married. For about 5 yrs now, since I was not working and was a college student, my "boyfriend" claimed "our" kids and "my" kids and filed Head of Household since he provided over half of support for all 4 kids. I graduated in Aug and have been working since then so I am going to file taxes myself this year. My "boyfriend" made almost 3 times what I made since I only worked part of the year. Is the correct way to file to have him again file Head of Household and claim all 4 kids? Or should I have him claim "our" two and then claim "my" two myself...this gets us the best refund but I'm not sure if it is okay to split the kids this way since we live in the same residence. If I split the kids, he would file Head of Household with "our" two and I would file either Head of Household of Single with "my' two.

I would also say Turbo Tax but sometimes they are hard if you have things like savings, stocks/bonds, and other things like that. Try asking a tax company such as H and R block. If your friends or a family membere use them then you can get a small discount and so will they.

Since the boyfriend made much more money, he likely has provided over half the cost of maintaining the home. So he can file as Head of Household. There can only be one Head of Household.

You need to file Single. You can split the children any way you want. The boyfriend is father to two of the children and uncle to the other two so all the children qualify to be his dependents. And of course they qualify to be your dependents as well.

this would be a difficulty requiring the submitting of an "AMENDED" return. it particularly is in basic terms as stupid because of the fact the unique submitting yet it particularly is the area to start up. he will decide on copies of those 2004 and 5 returns.
