Okay, I'm a 16 year old girl who knows plenty about masturbation and sex and whatever. I know it's normal and okay (to do in private!). But my 19 year old brother does it while watching TV in the living room, and I'm maybe 15 feet (tops!) away from him, on the computer in the dining room. He does it "discreetly" under a light blanket but it's VERY OBVIOUS what he's doing. I don't care what he does in his own time with his own privacy, but he's like IN PLAIN SIGHT OF ME. It's disgusting and extremely uncomfortable. I don't know what to do! I am much too uncomfortable to confront him about it. Should I tell our mom? Should I use it as blackmail next time he sees me smoking? I need help, PLEASE.

I understand about confronting him, that's embarrasing for both of you.

I would go sit next to him every time he does it, very close (like within 2 feet). He would be forced to go away if you continuously invade his privacy. It's like trainig a dog. If he's an *** to you, you can use it to embarrass him, but don't use blackmail.

He definately needs to stop though.

If he has a blanket over his genitals then it isn't in "plain sight". He is already being discreet by not having it right out in the open. Sure maybe it would be better for him to sneak off and hide the fact he does it but why shoudl he since you already know all about masturbation and already know he does it too. So, instead of watching him do it and getting all freaked out, just concentrate on what you are doing on the computer until he finishes.

And what is the point of bribery or telling on him. Both of those send a clear signal that you do not consider masturbation normal and healthy but rather that despite what you say, you consider it disgusting or worse. Personally, I'd be happy my brother was normal and healthy and pleasuring himself rather than going out and having sex with just anyone who was willing and thus running the risk of getting a girl pregnant or catching an STI.

If you're uncomfortable confronting your brother about this, I'd suggest you consider writing him a letter. That way you can still be dealing with him directly and you don't have to bring your parents into it. If you do that, you need to write it with some sensitivity, though. It's a difficult topic for anyone to discuss with a sibling, let alone for a 16 yr old to try with her older brother, so I give you points for bravery if you try. I would write quite simply that you've noticed that while you've been on the computer there have been times when your brother's been watching programs that make you uncomfortable and you wish that he would either watch in his bedroom(?) or refrain from watching them altogether when you're in the living room as well. Chances are he'll get the hint. He probably will not want to talk with you about this either, so he'll either keep on doing it or he'll stop. If he keeps on doing it, speak to your parents. Don't blackmail him with it because then he'll try to blackmail you with something as well. Good luck.

Make a video(w/out his knowledge) and post it on the internet where he will be sure to see it. ALSO where his friends will see it. Boy has a problem and needs help. OR...Buy him a blow up doll but tell him he must only use it in his own room where no one can see.

Ewww, my older brother went through that, I finally had enough and told my mom and dad...that did the trick really quick. Don't know what they did or said but it worked!

he will on no account quit.....on no account. I propose you progression to the settee, and sleep there, or kick his "wanking-butt" out of the room. it is not organic for a 22 y/o to be sharing a mattress with a 12 y/o.

Tell your mom. Embarrassing, but the only sure way to get him to stop short of asking him yourself, have you tried that?

next time tell him to stop. blackmailing him on masturbating isnt going to do much.... smoking is wrong for you, and nasty. I bet if you go sit next to him, he will stop...
