Didn't Jesus say that we are to help the poor and not persecute them? Why do I see this happening among some Christians? This is not directed at "All" Christians as I know there are people out there that would give you the shirt off their back! And also: Why is racism still a problem in some churches? One of my best friends is black and a Christian! Hes probably the greatest person I have ever met!

Could some use excuses like "They don't want to work" or "How do you know they are homeless"? Well how do you know they are not homeless? Did Jesus say only give to those who you know for sure are poor? NO!!! He said we are to give to the poor! That is one of the things we are commanded to do! I know you think thats a "liberal" view! lol..... When are we gonna quit being so political?

Look! I do not oppose any believer! I'm a believer myself! I had some bad experiences with a church I once attended. One minister said I was Demon possesed. They constantly mocked me. They constantly talked about me behind my back. For one reason. Because I wasn't like them! But one man stood up for me! And that was my friend who is a black man! I do not hold this against "all" Christians. And thanks be to God. I forgive them for what they did to me!

What about the Salvation Army and Saint Vincent De Paul and all their helpers don't they count?

Well if they talk about you behind your back then that is not very Christian-like is it? So many Christians stray away from God.Even I do this at times. And yes you are right some Christians don't take the Bible seriously. Also, there should'nt be racism in church because as Christians,we are supposed to follow Jesus' teachings. We are not supposed to discriminate against one another, but love each other and take care of each other's needs. And you said that some Christians don't help poor people.Well,a long time ago, when I was little,I asked my mom if we could give that old guy money because he was so poor.We saw him standing around asking people for money every time we went to that store. A few years later,I remembered the old man an asked her why we never helped him.She said that asking for money was his job.She also said that if we did help him, where could we put him? How can we help him to get back on his feet when we were already stuggling? I strongly disagreed with her that it would be the right thing to do.The point is that no one wants to give away something they worked hard for and needed,to someone who is sitting idle. I agree with you that we should all help poor people though. But you can make a difference. You can start right now by helping them.Do what I do and go help out at soup kitchens.I hope this helps you.Bye and bless God!

Honestly, I can't say. Some are only fair weather worshippers who worship for that hour on Sunday. Some just like to talk but don't act. Some are just selfish. I am a muslim woman, and I had no problem with giving as much as I could while walking out of the store to the salvation army. I don't know how they do things where you are, but in our WalMarts here in Milwaukee, the Salvation Army sets up trees decorated with little wish lists from children whose families are so poor they can't even afford small gifts. I took one of those and bought whatever I could from that list, and made sure it was nice. If a muslim woman can do it for anyone regardless of religion since that is who the Salvation Army helps, then why can't believers from that very faith?

I beleive that some Christians dont really want to look to that area of a problem you know out site out of mind! Some Christians just plain forgot what it was like to be poor too... The racism is still here and only god knows why. In the south it is still a practice to have black's and even if there are Christians come to the back doors of houses and some Chruches and I pray that one day this will change for my grandchildren. It is a very hurtful thing that this still happens in our County!!

Where I live, there are people who "feed off" of the public. You should take a serious and wise decision when giving since many people just abuse the system, the public, and you. Not everyone on the street needs money. Granted, there are people hard on times, out of a job, or just plain homeless. But there are also people trying to get their kid a playstation, a new car, or feeding off of the government for medicare and wellfare. Read up on how much the government pays for illegal immigrants to have babies in USA and you might be ashamed, also.

PS;; Jesus did not heal every sick person, or give to every poor, ie, you should use the same judgement, because the same type then are the same type now.

How do you know they are homeless? A night doesn't go by that I don't take one home to a house or an apartment, nicer than what I can afford to live in as a cab driver. When they come up with a system to identify the homeless from the con-artists, than I will give to them. Otherwise, I follow the example of McDonald's on the Kansas City Plaza.

They put up a sign naming all the non-profit groups that help the homeless. We have been getting overwhelmed with them in the last year. As a cab driver, I've seen the increase. I know the faces of those who have been doing it for years, because I've taken them home, and I see the new ones coming to town.

Yes, there are ones who are homeless of no choice of their own, but there are far more who simply do it as a profession. We need to find a way to weed out them from those who really need home.

As for Jesus, remember what he said as regards the selling of the perfumed oil used on his feet. In the days of Christ, it was much easier to identify the homeless and poor. It is not so easy today.

Because most Christians who do this do not want to do what Jesus did.

I have known many homeless people in my life and most of the ones I know are homeless because of mental illness and cannot work. It is not their fault.

the salvation army and other organizations like this do realize it is the Christians responsibility to help the poor.

You are so right. Jesus said when I was hungry you fed me not, when I was cold you clothed me not. When we do it to the lest we do it on to Christ. Outreach has been neglected for to long. People get saved and forget where they came from. They go to church every Sunday and talk about how saved they are and who is going to hell and forget about our great commission...Go ye into all the earth and preach the gospel. Like you said, not all but a lot. Also, segregation has been out lawed every where except the church. When will the body of Christ truly act as one body? When will we realize it's not about race, it's not about which day you go to church or what you wear to church, it's all about Christ.

I cry for the homeless,I give them my last nickle.I live in one room on social security, I do not have a bank account or even burial insurance. My entire family struggles in poverty.I recall my Son
last summer.walking in 100 degree heat to store with our last few dollars to get eggs and bread, He came in out of breath and sweating, He said there is a homeless man two blocks away hungry. He hurried to make him sandwiches and scraped up all the change we had and walked back to give it to him.also a cold drink. We are Christian. This is what Jesus taught.

He clearly said that the rich man is hard to enter the kingdom of God but unto God all things are possible.

Racism used to be a divine council to keep the children of god through Adam seperate from the decsendants of Cain who chose to serve Satan. However the Love of Adam to his children and the love of God to us all, the children of Cain loved satan more! Many people still teach that kind of theology and that Cain was the beginning of the black race, therefore the black race was called the children of satan. But I would point out when it comes to racism EVEN the chosen people become proud and forsake God whereas Some pagans were exalted above THEM and it was counted that they worshipped God in greater truth. But i cant give you the link to the verse of the pagan because the search engine im using wont even see the word!

as for the rich who live deliciously, their end will come!

I am a Christian and I know that my church has helped many a homeless person, and many low income people, even if they are not a member of my church. My church sent a lot of food and different things to Iraq and Afghanistan and to Louisiana and where ever that help is needed. So, please don't catagorize all Christians that way.
