My dog acts crazy! Pouncing on nothing. Barking and running back and forth obsessivley. He jumps out of our fence and has to be tied on a dog run so he won't get lost. We adopted him from the pound at 6 months. He was there cause he was too noisey and got kicked out of his apartment. My husband is considering returning him to the pound.

Labs are a high energy dog, especially when younger. It's the breed. That is why they are used for retreiving game. They need a lot of exercise to wear them down. When bored they can get into things. And they can clear a fence, no problem.

You may have inherited problems from previous owner that may have done no working or training as a pup. Gone too much, etc. Labs are not apartment dogs unless owner really took time to walk, exercise.

Do you go out and spend the time interacting with your lab? They love to chase balls, frisbees, etc. Left on his own he has no choice but to amuse himself in all the wrong ways. Some like chew toys and stuffed toys to play with, destroy. He is bored.

Dogs do bark trying to get attention. Are you expecting him to know what behaviour you expect? Dogs have to be worked with and he may be lacking in behaviour skills from previous owner.

Read up on labs as a breed for more insight into temperament and traits.

What do you do to exercise him? It sounds to me like your dog has a whole lot of excess energy and is trying to burn it off. You need to walk him, probably more than once a day, spend lots of time playing fetch or frisbee, etc.

Also, does your dog live out in the yard? Sometimes dogs bark because they're lonely and nervous. They are almost always much calmer and quieter when allowed to live indoors with you and be part of the pack like they're supposed to be.

If you can't give this lab the exercise and attention he needs, taking him back would be kinder than leaving him in the yard alone and going crazy like that. And don't adopt anymore high energy dogs.

that's difficult to compete with an important different who encourages undesirable habit. in case you want an excellent courting with your canines, refuse to settle for the undesirable habit. turn faraway from him at the same time as he's misbehaving, and do not supply treats for barking. attempt to dismiss the barking, and if it keeps for more beneficial than a jiffy, locate some thing he would not like (loud sound, or water spray) and use that; once he stops barking then you extremely supply treats and praise. when they comprehend they could't get what they choose with the help of undesirable habit, they're going to study what does get them rewards.

He must be from "working bloodlines". His breed is used to working. A happy dog has a "job".. can you start training him even if it is in just obedience? The movement is is only from being a puppy and his body needs the movement so he will grow correctly. All dogs bark at movement that they see.. could be a blade of grass in some cases.
"GIVE HIM A JOB'.. EVEN IF HIS JOB IS TO MIND YOU" teach him to sit, down and come and heel. Take him for walks. Give him stability.
GOOD LUCK & HAPPY TRAINING
