Where hearts and minds cannot be conquered, conversion by physical assimilation is a viable alternative as it is visible in the surviving offspring.

Killing off whole species, generations of people, and so on, generalises the purpose of war. Common reasons that usually revolve around gains and protection, include:

- Material gains: territory and natural resources, which includes manpower;

- Ideological enforcement: valid, vanity, or pure fiction, a common mode of communication is formed with the masses towing similar ideals and ways of thinking.

Less common but of equal validity, is the expression of one way over another devoid of reason, logic and all other traditional explanations.

The purpose of war is to defeat the enemy by breaking their will to fight. And raping the enemy's women is a good way to break their will to fight.

I know that sounds horrible - but war is a horrible thing.

During World War II, it was widely feared by German women that they were to stay behind in areas occupied by the Soviet Army that they would be raped by Russian soldiers.

This caused widespread flight by German civilians as the Soviet Army advanced across Poland and into Germany - which overwhelmed Germany's badly damaged transport system and jammed the remaining German held cities with refugees - this contributed to Germany's military collapsing and having to surrender.

There was also widspread fear in Japan that American marines and soldiers would rape Japanese women - this actually led to mass suicides by thosuands of Japanese women living in Saipan and Okinawa, and may have contributed to Japan's decision to surrender to the Americans before large numbers of American troops were landed on the Japanese home islands.

That's why armies use rape, and the fear of rape, as a weapon.

The purpose of war is to win. Killing people is part of it. But if your enemy fears that you will also rape their women and children you can demoralize them as well. It's pretty sick, but so is war in general.

Rape is far more than sex, it's a power thing and thats what war is about. Any soldier who rapes someone should suffer the worst penalty.
