Ok, I've stayed out of this section for months now...figure I would just pop in to say hello to all of you.
Here is my real question: why do religious folks "down-thumb" everyone that doesn't agree with their point of view, or "belief"?
Just for fun, I clicked on a "religious" question (it was simply: are you religious?), and after I saw that somebody had down-thumbed all the non-believers, I went through and did the same with the believers.
You know what? I was expecting some sort of evil satisfaction. Well, there wasn't any satisfaction. It just wasn't enjoyable.
So if you down-thumb people that don't agree with you on a regular basis, do you feel some small sense of self-worth? Just curious. If so, I think you really need some counseling, or anger management classes!
And if you can't understand sarcasm, that whole thing on counseling was sarcasm!

impossble_dream: Thanks for your thoughtful response. In answer to your query, I do give thumbs up to well thought out responses, even if I don't agree. Like some mentioned, there is no right or wrong with opinion polls. I believe we can all learn something from each other if we care to!

Thank you for asking this question. I actually had left Y!A for a couple of days because I was so turned off by the lack of maturity from both sides. I agree that it is silly to give someone a thumbs down when they disagree with you.
However, I'd like to be honest and say that Y!A isn't the best forum for sarcastic questions. I love sarcasm, but have had to learn the hard way (always by being misunderstood) that sarcasm doesn't translate to print. It's best expressed in tone of voice or even facial features. I probably won't be able to disuade anyone from asking these kinds of questions, so maybe I'll just need to be like you and avoid this section.

You make a good point. People shouldn't give a thumbs down just because they don't agree. A thumbs down should be reserved for something that is :
1) written poorly
2) insulting
3) not an answer to the question asked
4) not well thought out. or nothing more than a tiresome cliche.
I don't give thumbs up just because I agree but only if I think it was truly deserving.

Some good answers here and of course some bad ( by the way please do work on your sarcasm ) I personally do thumbs down answers or questions I consider exceptionally stupid or shallow I have found that most people asking questions here are not looking for truthful opinions instead they pick a answer that is poorly considered and reflects their own opinion ! political & religious sections are the worst for this what other reason is there for being here but to exchange ideas ? maybe you teach and maybe you learn ! I do like to tease some of the most ignorant with questions that will hopefully cause people to think as a result I have noticed that my questions and answers do recieve a large number of thumbs both up and down I consider this a compliment for one thing those whop thumbs down me consider me dangerous I have been falsely reported twice this week and have heard from others who have been as well maybe instead of thumbs we should concentrate on reporters I sent a suggestion to yahoo answers team that for false reports they should suspend the reporters acct one week for the first offense 1 month for the second and perment on the third this would help reduce the number of reports and rid us of trolls at the same time please if you feel this a good idea send a endorsement to them if enough of us want it they will be more likley to adopt this measure
opps almost forgot if the troll didn't like or feared the answer enough to report it it should also be reposted automatically !

no one even knows if any faith replaced into sent all the way down to absolutely everyone named Moses; that's probably mere folklore. however the training are uniquely bloodthirsty and extraordinary while in comparison with substantial faiths mutually with Christianity and Islam. that's considered necessary undergo in suggestions that this faith has in no way enjoyed lots of a following; there are in basic terms approximately 5 - 6 million religious Jews on an identical time immediately and that's doubtless one in all of the optimal discern ever and approximately comparable to a minor faith like the Bahai faith. interesting once you think approximately the Bahais have been around an insignificant a hundred and fifty years and this one is going decrease back a minimum of two,200 years or so,probable longer. actually that's a failed faith and it somewhat is uncomplicated to work out why. forget approximately with reference to the Talmud; interpreting the so-spoke of as previous testomony or "Tanahk" is sufficient of a abdomen-churner. It basically includes celebrations of mass-homicide with an excellent form of sexual morbidity on the area. no longer very appealing to a classic and healthful suggestions.

Anonymity, a double edged blade with which the untrained youthful mind will apply with commendable vigour and enthusiasm.
The dull mind is equally impotent in exercising due care which connives subtle acts unbecoming of civilised society.
One might try to attain an evil satisfaction by raising the questions "How does one develop a taste for evil satisfaction" or "Thongs and All things religious."
Since the thumbs down failed miserably with this Answerer, they have since graduated to dopple ganger acts, impersonations. Suffice it to say, immaturity reveals itself in the answers, copied and pasted in-triplicate.
Influencing minds for a more open inclusive society are a step in the right direction.
In the mean time, Answerer suggests maturity and patience as prescription to preserve yourself. Sit back, have a glass of wine or port for yourself. (Besides, it is the winter school holidays.)

The reason that a lot of religious people disagee with non religious people is that religious people need to feel self righteous. There's a difference between being religious and having faith. People with faith seldom condemn others for their beliefs and simply let it go. But religious are so named because their actions are dictated by their religion. The bible says that you must have works and faith to get into heaven. Most people miss that faith thing and work really hard at that works thing and it just ***** everything up. Working at a homeless shelter if you deteste their very existence is not works with faith. It's just that simple-I'd down thumb the religious people too!

Couldn't agree with you more ... often wondered the same thing. Why *do* people give a thumbs down (which is defined by Y!A as an answer that was not helpful) when someone simply gives their opinion when invited to do so. How can an opinion or a poll be "not helpful". The thumbs down fairies are so spiteful!

I give thumbs up and thumbs down accordingly. Even if I don't agree with other people's answers. Opinions are like @ssholes, everybody has one and no answer is right or wrong, everyone has a right to their opinion. Including you.lol

Actually I am a Christian and gave someone a best answer vote who didn't agree with me. I was asking an honest question and wanted an honest answer. He gave me one. He wasn't degrading or slamming Christianity, he provided a train of thought that I hadn't considered. So, all religious folks do not think the way you are implying.

Thumbs down is an often abused feature. It is suppose to be used if the question was not answered in a manner that people could understand. But, as much as Yahoo Answers tells us that this should not happen, people give thumbs down for any answer they don't like based on nothing more then dislike of the answerer or even questioner. But doing the same thing in kind is only showing us that you are willing to sink to their level.
