I know my regulars & they're great people, but I'm just the 'tender. So what do I do? It's kind of an "upscale" restaurant.

Well if it's a few regulars you might find a really nice glass or mug that suites them and then keep it behind the bar for when they visit. Like a special glass just for them to make them feel special.

If it's a wine bar you can always get them a nice inexpensive wine bottle topper.

I guess as a bartender the best gift you can give them is a free drink or two haha!

This is my rule of thumb when it comes to those gifts that I feel I'm obligated to (i.e. my boss, co-workers, etc). Is it in my heart to want the person to have that item? then I give it to them. Is my motivation to reduce anxiety I might feel because I have a sense of obligation? Then I don't. Because a gift thats not given from the heart is empty, and meaningless, and usually creates tension. Maybe just a card with the inscription "thank you for your patronage all year round - my best wishes for happiness in the coming year" will do the trick.

Not necessary. Do give if it is in your heart to give to them. Why not try proclaiming one night "Free Tip Night" Tell your patrons you want to thank them for their generosity this past year and offer them a night without gratuities accepted. I'm sure they will love you for it! I would. Plus I would think that was super sweet of you to remember with a holiday gift! Great question!

No. you are under no obliagtion to give your customers anything because they tip you all year long...you do your job and well and they tip you for it...if anythign they should tip you extra because of the holidays not the other way around.

I don't think you need to give them gifts. You already contribute to "the relationship" by serving them and they show their appreciation with their tips. I don't think they [should] expect more from you except your attentive service. You can always let them know that you appreciate them.

If you know their tastes well enough, you can usually find small inexpensive gifts that show you were thinking of them without bankrupting you.

No, they give you gifts because you listen to their stories all year long.

how about after they order, when you serve tell them it's on me, merry Christmas. I think this would be very thoughtfull and you might even get a good tip!

What is in your heart to do? Don't do it out of obligation. Do you sincerely want to give them something? If so, then do it. If not, then don't.
