Catholics need to be careful as the Catholic Church has added much to that religion that isn't in the original Bible that was written by God through man. The Catholics have written their own version of the Bible.

The Old Testament is the same as the Jewish Tanakh. and Torah primarily refers to the first section of the Tanakh. They are all good history books.

Everything changed when Jesus came to earth and died for our sins. The two commandments in the New Testament are how we should live our lives today. The problem comes in that the Jews believe that Jesus came to earth, but they don't believe he is the Son of God, so they aren't saved. They're still trying to live their lives under old laws that make no sense today.

God Bless...

Here, let me help you out, i was just like you. The first 5 books are the Torah or the law...the New Testament is a verification and validation of the Old Testament with all that sex, mayhem and violence the nuns never want your tender ears to hear. Isaiah 53...Jesus said He did not come to change the law or the writings of the prophets, but to fulfill it and added only one commandment to the 10 in Deuteronomy, to love one another. John 13:34-35.... Go to :http:www.jvim.com...that will help you even more.

Hello Dear =)

The old testament is made up of things that are relevant to both Jews and Christians.....

Jews use many texts, Torah, Talmud, and others, and the Christian old testament comes from these.

New testament is entirely A.D.

The "dividing line" between Jews and Christians is simple...

Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah. Jews are still waiting for their Messiah. One view is as valid as the other.

I often thought "wouldn't it be great for everyone if the advent of the Jewish Messiah was the "second coming" of the Christian Christ, and the coming of the Muslim "Isu", as a sign of the End Times??"

But then again, I'm a Buddhist, and don't really believe in God, so the whole thing is rather academic to me.

Namaste, and Happy New Year,

--Tom

Nope - the schooling will be something of an ever increasing dividend in your life.
Torah - Mosaic based writings constituting the first 5 books of the Bible and the essential Scripture for the Jewish faith.
OT - Testament means covenant or God's agreement/actions.
The OT is God trying to help the Jewish people understand the full meaning of the Torah. It includes the history of these efforts as well as the warnings about not listening.
NT is a new covenant involving Jesus where God tries a new approach since no one could handle the OT covenant of Law.

The answer is "sort of". The Torah consists of a number of documents that are also in the Old Testament, but it would be incorrect to say that they are one and the same (I'm sure some poor uninformed Christian is responding with exactly that answer).

There are a gazillion books out there on the subject, have fun researching it: I do!

The term Old Testament refers to all versions and translations of the Hebrew Bible and is the first major part of the Bible used by Christians. It is usually divided by Judaism into the categories of law: Torah; prophecy: Neviim; and writings: Kethuvim (history, poetry, wisdom books); as denoted by the acronym Tanakh.

The Torah and the Old Testament are two different things. The Old Testament is part of the Bible and I think you should know what the Torah is by now from that one answer.
