She wasn't acting like herself all day, but we had company all afternoon so I thought that maybe she was just scared around all the people, but then I was holding her and I noticed this lump right above her shoulder blade! It is under the skin but doesn't feel like it is attached to anything underneath the skin because I can pull up on it. I don't think it hurts her at all because if I pinch it she doens't even notice. I thought it might be a tick but she doesn't go outside and there isn't really any noticeable spot where a tick would have burried in her skin. Should I take her to the vet tomorrow? Should I be really worried?

TAKE TO VET ASAP !!!!!!! heres' why. My last cat had a lump between his shoulder blades so I took him in. the vet did surgery right away. It turned out to be a fibro-sarcoma that resulted from a vacanation site problem ( science has since revised the vaccinne ). The worst news came soon. Fibor-sarcoma grows from the site like many long fingers that wrap itself around everything in sight...and very fast also. Decker recovered from surgury, but it came back within a month. Its a very agressive cancer that eventually took his life. We did several more surgeries, but it kept comming back worse than the last time. I had an appointment to hav him put down one Monday morning, so I stayed up all night holding him and just balling like a baby ( yea, Im a guy, and yea I cry when something I loved as much as Decker was getting ready to die ). Just hours before it was time to go in, I knew he sensed it and knew he didnt want to go down on a metal table at a strange place. All of a sudden, he bumped aginst me, meowed a horrible meow, and collapsed in my lap in a seziure. I held him in my arms, cried, and told him it was OK to go see god. He died right then, staring right into my eyes. Im actually glad he died in my arms and I always get teary eyed talking about, even today, after 9 years. TAKE HIM TO THE VET ASAP. If he does have it, they can use durgs to prolong things, but it wont get better. I allowed him to live too long as I know the last few months were more about me than him, and I will never forgive myself for making him suffer any more than necessary. If you do go the drug route, just remember this story and do it for him. there are some vets that will come to your house so he or she can go in a familiar place, rather than be scared and cold in the presence of a stranger. I pray your cat is OK. It could be benine because Decker's second surgury turned out to be a cyst. I was relieved, but later the cancer did come back. good luck.

Call your vet tomorrow and talk to them about this. They will probably want you to bring your kitty in for an exam so the vet can feel the lump. They can usually tell by feeling if it's just a cyst or if it's something that needs to be sampled and sent off for testing.

A hopeful note: Did your kitty have a shot recently? From the location that you describe, it could be a shot site reaction. That's definitely no big deal. Just give your vet a call and they will help ease your worries, one way or another :)

My personal opinion: It doesn't sound like a "big deal" lump. But your vet knows a whole lot more than I do!

Obviously I don't know the circumstances of your adoption of this kitten into your home, but there could be, and hopefully is, and easy explanation for the small lump you feel. Your kitten could have a microchip implanted in her. That is the location of the chip in most animals and many times, if coming from a breeder/shelter, they will have them chipped and programmed with your information already (as did my Ragdoll). If you are not sure on whether or not she has been chipped, you can take her to most vets or shelters that have the capability to read the chips or ask the original keepers of the kitten if known. Of course, this may not be the cause of the bump, but I hope it is!!! Please get it checked out as soon as possible so you and your little love don't have to worry! Good luck!

I would take her to the vet but try massaging it, it could be just a calcium billed up that needs to be broken down. If she allows you to massage it and break it down without a fight I would do that plus you get the chance to cuddle with her too. But a vet has the tools and resources to find out what it it. Good luck to you and kitty!!

If you are concerned then the best thing to do is take her to the vet. They would know if it is fatal or nothing to worry about. Anytime you are concerned with your kitties welfare the vet is the first place to go.

If you haven't noticed the lump there before, I would call the vet just to check. It could be serious, or it could be somewhat normal.
