Christians. Are you one of those? Why do you think that you are?

Father K, Tofu Jesus, and Little Warrior are 3 that come to my mind.

Most of you know how I feel about many of the atheists on here. Their intelligence is far greater than mine.

I think I am one of them. I think I am a person who has studied deeply, observed carefully, and believe w/ a joyful struggle.
Intelligence, I find, sees itself as increasingly ignorant. Open minded must struggle that the very "open" does not become closed. If I am open minded toward porn, then I soon become closed to the terrible havoc it wrecks upon society's view of women.
Why do I think such of myself - pain and loss have taught me much along the way. And I have accepted their lessons.

In my experience atheists only feel that I am intelligent and open minded when I agree with them- so much for everyone being free to have their own opinions and think for themselves.
I am not trying to be sarcastic here but I have had the same people who will on one question call me a brainless idiot, say just the opposite when it comes to a question that I actually agree with them on.

I feel I am intelligent and open minded- I know why I believe what I beleive, I question everything and look it up and research it myself. I am not afraid to say what I believe or voice my opinion even when I know it wont be the popular one. I won't answer a question based on emotion or because I am 'offended' by the askers question or tone, but I put a lot of thought into my answers and try to give a reasonable, clear and concise answer with examples when called for. I can relax and not take myself seriously and I can be serious when the situation calls for it.

I find these traits in believers and nonbelievers alike and I find the opposite in believers and nonbelievers alike.
I don't get offended very easily, I don't waste my time where someones only intent is to offend and instigate. I am however kind of tire of people separating believers and nonbelievers by personality traits or intelligence when neither group is more intelligent, more polite, more understanding, more open minded, etc than the other.
You have just about as many intelligent, reasonable people in either group and you have just about as many mean spirited, ignoramuses in either group- religion or non religion does not seem to have a whole lot to do with it.
Just because someone disagrees with you on a point that seems important to you does not mean they are and idiot and unfortunately there are those on both sides of the fence that behave this way.

Yes! I consider myself to be very open minded. I consider myself to be so because I have changed many of my beliefs over the last 2 years, and am still opened to those being changed again. I don't have a problem admitting I am wrong, and I don't have a problem admitting I don't know something. I consider myself open minded because I grew up around those who are not, and I used to be closed minded, and am no longer like those who are not and I am no longer the same person.

Now, intelligence could be debated. :) I think I am reasonably intelligent, but most people think they are. My reasoning is this: I have an IQ of 132, and if the definition of intelligence is "Those who have curiousity and the need to satisfy it" is true, then that definitely describes me. However, I do an say many un-intelligent things at times . . . (at least I have the intelligence to admit it, haha) :)

Intelligent - in some areas. Other areas I am an ignorant fool. It just depends on who you compare me to.

Open minded - hmmm............. I have strong convictions, but I can listen to objections and I have realized my error in one case that I am aware of (when before hand I was convinced I was right, but after a debate I realized I was in error and I felt like a fool). But if you define open-minded as "thinking all opinions may be truthful, and that there is no correct one" then I am very close-minded. I think the things I believe are the only truth, for everyone, and it takes a lot to convince me otherwise, yet I will at least listen to objections because maybe I overlook something simple.

Intelligent -- I am a Christian and a easily a member of mensa having an IQ well above average. I struggle with religion more than most of my friends. I find I am more perplexed by things I can fully understand. I think intelligence can certainly be a barrier to belief.

Open minded -- I find it unfortunate that many Christians find it hard to truly love and reach out to certain people groups. Certain sins are certainly more visible than others but we all have them. We aren't supposed to be the judge just the light. Being the judge alienates people and does not draw them in as a light does.

That said one of the groups most alienated by Christians are homosexuals and one of my best friends is as lesbian as they come, I also find it very stimulating to debate with people of other beliefs to discover more about both their and my beliefs. So I guess that makes me qualified to be included as intelligent and open minded Christian.

Well, I think I am a open minded Christian not because I am gullible to other peoples beliefs but because I open my mind to the possibilities of just about anything whether its Evolution or bringing up a new belief religion or god. Another way you can show how open minded you are is buy how you argue and back up your beliefs . One way you can tell how open minded someone is by how well and reasonably they back things up. If they act completely stupid and say something like, "I Believe in God because he's real" or "I believe in God cause the bible tells me so" are bot stupid answers. It is possible to prove God's existence and thats the way anyone should be converted to Christianity. You can also tell how open minded someone is by the way they argue when a idea opposing their beliefs is brought up. For example, lets say a evolutionist is arguing with a Christian. The evolutionist is stating his belief but the Christian is completely ignoring him or her and constantly interrupting to say something like "Thats not true because the Bible says otherwise." Those are all signs of a closed mind and what point im trying to get across is that i do none of those.

I consider myself fairly intelligent and unjudgemental, though not necessarily open-minded as far as beliefs. I can respect a person the way they are, but as a Christian and a logical thinker I can't accept their views as my own.
It is hard for a Christian (or for that matter, anybody) to be unjudgemental, and that is what turns many people off. Over-piousness and judgement makes anyone feel unwelcome.

I don't know if I qualify...It is dangerous to proclaim oneself as intelligent.... and, IMHO, an "open-minded" person is often a person who is either unsure or unprincipled - and I am neither.

god bless!!

God's intelligence is far greater than any human's.

That is why I go to His Holy Word, The Bible, when making a point.
