My parents lived together for 20 years before they got married. I'm here so I guess they weren't wasting that time so much.

you are not wasting your time if you are having fun. Just keep having fun and stop worrying about marriage. You have been with him/her for so long, that if you get married it will make no difference, well the only difference is that you will call some your husband/wife, a ring and a piece of paper that says you are married that's all. People think when they get married a miracle happens.5 years is just as good as a marriage especially if you live together. if you are a female, don't bother him about being married. He will marry if he wants to and if you are that desperate why don't you propose. In our modern world it's OK for women to propose though HONESTLy i would never propose, i think it takes away from my woman pride.

People date for various reasons most people are trying to find that special person to share the rest of their life with. If you been with someone for five years then the commitment is definitely there but something is lacking maybe the fear of divorce. Wasting time, only if either of you marry someone else. So don't wait to long.

I think if you have been dating as long as 5yrs., then someone is dragging their feet. It is common knowledge that this type of relationship never end in marriage. I'm not into ultimatums, but in this case their needs to be one. What if these people never marry, then they have wasted 5yrs. that they could have been using to explore their lives and other people. It is not a total waste of time, but it is a waste of effort.

ehh i guess it could be partially true, but it's probably just a myth or poor statistics.
my boyfriend and i have been together for 3 years but i'm only 16 and he's a few months younger, we hope to get married someday, but our case is that we're not old enough.
i guess it all just depends on the couple itself.

I don't beleive that. But it is naturally finish of one relation or to merried or to break up.So it is not important how many time you stay with someone-it is importanat only what the couple will decide. You should speak on this with your partner. What is his opinion for weddings in general and would he like to merry to you someday. It's normal conversation.I speak with my boy for this(we are together from 3 years).Don't affraid ask him what he think!

well..the thing is..if he didnt propose for that long..then he's prolly not seeing a point of it..cuz there's a saying tht says something like "if he's getting the milk why would he buy the cow" or something like that..

not neccesarily tho..maybe he's just waiting for the right time..
anyway...if you're in that situation..5 years means you can talk about ANYTHING..so maybe you can talk to him about it..
