Why?

Do you have the money & the mental, emotional stability to make it on your own w/o any help from your Dad?

Can you support yourself? Pay rent, electric bill, phone bill, cable if you don't want to get bored every now & then, clothes, public transportation (if you don't have a car), if you do have a car, you must pay for insurance & car payment, have money saved in the bank for emergencies, have pocket money, have money for food, furniture, household cleaning products (you don't want to keep a messy, dirty home), and also what if the rent doesn't cover gas/hot water (THAT is expensive)... what if you're going to college & have to get loans, you have to pay it back or they'll garnish your wages...and when you live alone, you must be careful that no one starts stalking you - there is always someone who knows when you leave & come back home, where you go to... you always have to keep an eye on strangers, your locked doors & windows, if you wanna live in a nice area RENT will be up the roof... how much money do you think you can get paid @ 17... you need a heck of alot more than just 7 to 10 bucks an hour...

You're 17, I'm sure you'll want to party, go to the movies, shop & shop 'till you drop.. who's gonna pay for all that? anything else you want me to share w/ you.... still wanna move out?

Enjoy your freedom, enjoy the fact that life is a bit simpler & easy-going for you... that you don't need to worry how you're going to make it from day to day b/c you have financial issues & responsibilties that could impede you from truly enjoying your life...

I wish I could be your age again -- I'm 28, single mom of a 2 year old.. it is HARD out there!! Take your time, why are you in such a rush to join the rest of us?!

You sure can ! I moved out of home at age 17 too .. and I did fine .. But I do have a good job and I have to tell you even if you do a budget before you move out it's even more expensive than that. I really don't know where all the money goes. So make sure your stable and have back up money behind you!

Might be a good idea to talk about it with your dad too !! :) Goodluck

Chances are at your age if you did move out no law enforcement official would bring you back against your will.

There are other considerations such as, do you have a place to live [might be hard to find someone to rent to a 17 yo], do you have a dependable car, do you have a way to support yourself? If the answer to any of these is 'no,' then you are not ready to move out.

It also depends on why you want to move out. Unless there is an extreme situation, it would be better to move out with your dad's blessing than to leave when he doesn't want you to.

Just what previous yahoo answer by Gregory S. says. I did move out of my dad's house a wk before I turned 17 but that was only because I live in state that allows girls to move out when they are 1 7 and I just threatened to keep running away all wk until my 17th bday.

If he can provide a stable living for himself, get a stable activity and could completely stand on his very own 2 ft, come across a roof to place over his head, then i do no longer see why no longer. I graduated intense college on the age of sixteen, yet I nevertheless stay with my mum, i'm going to be leaving to college quickly nonetheless.

depends on what state you live in. second do you have a source of income to feed and house yourself. do you know about rental agreements, how to get utilities turned on, such as water, electric, and trash. do you know the difference between renting and leasing a place. If you discuss these thing with your dad, he may even help you get started off on the right foot. Lots of things to learn when move out on your own. A choice of roommate can be important and you split most your expenses. Good planing is all important...... Good luck and best wishes

If you're financially stable you should be fine.
If you're done with school, there's really no reason to stay.
