When I eat dinner at the dinner table, I get so annoyed, disgusted, and grossed out when I can hear my stepdad chew and chomp on food. It makes me lose my appetite. He breathes really loud while he chews and I can hear him crunch on everything he puts in his mouth. Is it normal to be this annoyed by someone's chewing? I would always rather go to restaurants because they are noisier and I don't have to hear him chew.

OH MY GOSH YES! I have the same problem with my dad and brother. The thing I hate the most is the heavy breathing while they are eating. I don't eat at the dinner table anymore because of it. And when I am forced to, I find that humming or swallowing a lot so I can't hear them as well really works. I complain about it all of the time, but I don't think it's going to change. eeek!!

That is so gross. And annoying. Have you spoken to your mother, could she help him modify. I should ask, does he chew with his mouth open? Or is this noise coming otherwise

Ask your mother to ask him to change how he eats. I would assume he leaves his mouth open while he is chewing. If he won't, and if you are old enough to make the decision, I would eat in another room. That is truly gross.

Maybe you should show him how unpleasant it is. Next time when you eat just bury your head in your food and make loud snorting noises. When you come up you then spray food all over him and even blow some out your nose. Then tip your glass of drink over your head (ok the last one was for me). He will then do one of two things - change his ways or start feeding you on the floor outside (where you won't have to hear him) like the family pet. Either way, you win.

Very annoying try to find a polite way of asking him to try to keep his mouth closed while chewing.

I'm not sure I would understand very well... I always wolf down my food as fast as possible. But I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask nicely, just because he's being gross doesn't mean you have to be rude back. If he doesn't want to change, try some earplugs. Heehee. Good luck!

Maybe it lays much deeper than the chewing, maybe youre stepdad did wrong to you and the slightest wrong of him annoyes you so much. Only you know this fact.
In some countries its regarded polite to enjoy youre food.

I don't know if it is normal. I know I am annoyed with my sister's chewing. Do you perhaps resent your stepdad? If you are already angry with him, then perhaps that is why you are annoyed. Sorry, I can't seem to express my thoughts very well. i hope it has helped some.

It's the same exact thing for me. Just kindly ask him to chew with his mouth closed. Hopefully it works.
