No it does not force anyone to believe, and I will show you the classical scholars (700 years ago, how they explained the verses)
No Compulsion in Religion
Allah said,
(There is no compulsion in religion), meaning, "Do not force anyone to become Muslim, for Islam is plain and clear, and its proofs and evidence are plain and clear. Therefore, there is no need to force anyone to embrace Islam. Rather, whoever Allah directs to Islam, opens his heart for it and enlightens his mind, will embrace Islam with certainty. Whoever Allah blinds his heart and seals his hearing and sight, then he will not benefit from being forced to embrace Islam.''
The Command to fight Those Who fight Muslims and killing Them wherever They are found
Abu Ja`far Ar-Razi said that Ar-Rabi` bin Anas said that Abu Al-`Aliyah commented on what Allah said:
[وَقَـتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ الَّذِينَ يُقَـتِلُونَكُمْ]
(And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you,)
Abu Al-`Aliyah said, "This was the first Ayah about fighting that was revealed in Al-Madinah. Ever since it was revealed, Allah's Messenger used to fight only those who fought him and avoid non-combatants. Later, Surat Bara'ah (chapter 9 in the Qur'an) was revealed.'' `Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said similarly, then he said that this was later abrogated by the Ayah:
[فَاقْتُلُواْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَيْثُ وَجَدتُّمُوهُمْ]
(then kill them wherever you find them) (9:5).
However, this statement is not plausible, because Allah's statement:
[الَّذِينَ يُقَـتِلُونَكُمْ]
(...those who fight you) applies only to fighting the enemies who are engaged in fighting Islam and its people. So the Ayah means, `Fight those who fight you', just as Allah said (in another Ayah):
[وَقَاتِلُواْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ كَآفَّةً كَمَا يُقَـتِلُونَكُمْ كَآفَّةً]
(...and fight against the Mushrikin collectively as they fight against you collectively.) (9:36)
This is why Allah said later in the Ayah:
[وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ وَأَخْرِجُوهُمْ مِّنْ حَيْثُ أَخْرَجُوكُمْ]
(And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out.) meaning, `Your energy should be spent on fighting them, just as their energy is spent on fighting you, and on expelling them from the areas from which they have expelled you, as a law of equality in punishment.'
The Prohibition of mutilating the Dead and stealing from the captured Goods
Allah said:
(but transgress not the limits. Truly, Allah likes not the transgressors.)
This Ayah means, `Fight for the sake of Allah and do not be transgressors,' such as, by committing prohibitions. Al-Hasan Al-Basri stated that transgression (indicated by the Ayah), "includes mutilating the dead, theft (from the captured goods), killing women, children and old people who do not participate in warfare, killing priests and residents of houses of worship, burning down trees and killing animals without real benefit.'' This is also the opinion of Ibn `Abbas, `Umar bin `Abdul-`Aziz, Muqatil bin Hayyan and others. Muslim recorded in his Sahih that Buraydah narrated that Allah's Messenger said:
«اغْزُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، قَاتِلُوا مَنْ كَفَرَ بِاللهِ، اغْزُوا وَلَا تَغُلُّوا وَلَا تَغْدِرُوا وَلَا تَمْثُلُوا وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا وَلِيدًا وَلَا أَصْحَابَ الصَّوَامِع»
(Fight for the sake of Allah and fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Fight, but do not steal (from the captured goods), commit treachery, mutilate (the dead), or kill a child, or those who reside in houses of worship.)
It is reported in the Two Sahihs that Ibn `Umar said, "A woman was found dead during one of the Prophet's battles and the Prophet then forbade killing women and children. '' There are many other Hadiths on this subject.
So please I have shown you the proofs, we are peaceful people, there are some crazies who are following their own desires instead of God's will. God will judge them accordingly.
And for those who just quote 5-6 verses, they need to understand that fighting is only allowed when you are defending (which was necessary during the time of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH). Since the Idolators (Arab Pagans) were much against the monotheistic teachings.
These are also good verses
[060:008] Allâh does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion nor drove you out of your homes. Verily, Allâh loves those who deal with equity.
[060:009] It is only as regards those who fought against you on account of religion, and have driven you out of your homes, and helped to drive you out, that Allâh forbids you to befriend them. And whosoever will befriend them, then such are the Zâlimûn (wrong doers – those who disobey Allâh).

I know Islam or the Muslims want to conquer the world! and they say one day all the world will be either under sharia law, and those who are not Muslims will be under the laws of the sharia and be under the protection of the Muslims and Islam! To me it sounds the same as what you question. At the very least, they want to be the one in the majority, the one who is in power over all others. By force or not! I am not sure about that. Many of them would like it to happen by any means even if it be by force, and many others by peaceful means. I would not generalize all of them, that is only fair. When it comes to the Quran, I think it is the main objective to convert everyone to Islam. The question is the method!

The Quran does neither. Muslims do not look to convert anyone and are commanded to treat non-Muslims fairly. In practice, this may not happen, but you are asking about the teachings in the Quran.
There is no hierarchy, no holy leader...only respected scholars that offer interpretations of the Quran. In terms of violence, the Quran says that one must defend ones-self, but to offer sanctuary to the defeated and captured...again practice is different.

no absolutely not!! let's see what the Quran says
"There is no compulsion in religion. Truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that never breaks. And God hears and knows all things.” [Qur’an 2:256]
"Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious." [ Qur'an 16:125]

NO it does not that is for sure. I am a Muslim and I have not been commanded and never will be to eliminate people who don't believe in Islam. I was brought up to try to enlighten people abut my religion but not force it upon others.

It is very very violent indeed.
the one thing I cant understand, they call Allah "merciful" where is this mercy exactly?
how do you explain that killing continuously in the name of Allah is the right thing to do?
this religion disappoints me ,disgusts me,and they are getting as bad as Jehovah's witnesses by trying to push their believes on others with VIOLENCE of course.
I used to be understanding and supportive I think I have lost that now!

we don't need a Hierarchy to speak on behalf of us or to preach our beliefs, as each Muslims beliefs are placed in this or her hearts and only Allah is to judge.

"no religious hierichy as the Catholic church does, no international leader who decides their teachings..."
YES!! THANK GOD FOR THAT!!
Otherwise, we'd be like most Christians and become "mushrikeen" and bask in total "sherk bil-lah"! :)
