Hello Dear =)
Could be many things.... Did this pain just suddenly show up?? In that case it could be some sort of systemic infection.
I once took a drink of lemonade while on vacation, and immediately had that reaction, which lasted several days. There was also some minor swelling. This was caused by blocked salivary ducts, apparently.
If the pain is chronic, or recurring, I would think that TMJ might be the problem. Visiting an orthodontist would be a first-step towards solving it.
If it is lasting very long, and causing you distress, you need to see your family doctor about it. He'll tell you what to do from there.
Namaste, and Happy New Year,
--Tom

Might be TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain. It's actually pretty common. It also causes popping noises in the jaw. Check out the website. Sometimes having braces can cause it (but, sometimes, orthodontic treatment can cure it)
"Temporomandibular joint diseases and disorders, commonly called TMJ, are a collection of poorly understood conditions characterized by pain in the jaw and surrounding tissues and limitations in jaw movements. Injury and conditions that routinely affect other joints in the body, such as Arthritis, also affect the temporomandibular joint. "

Could also be caused by grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw (I do this in my sleep)

Sounds like TMJ,You will have to ask a professional to be sure. Terminable Jaw Syndrome. Can be painful. Take care of it now before it gets to late.

Your pain might be bruxism which is the grinding of one's teeth at night. I have bruxism and I got from my dentist a mouth guard to prevent my teeth wearing away and also to minimize my jaw pains by minimizing my grinding.

If it's not your teeth, it sounds like an infection like the mumps- you can get this on either side or both sides. I had the mumps on one side when I was younger and one side of my face puffed up and I also experienced a bad fever too. I believe that a visit to the doctor and the proper antibiotics will help you get rid of this if this is the case.

Maybe you grind your teeth when you sleep. If you do that its like putting 200lbs oon your jar. Its what my bf does and it drives me crazy and leaves him in pain in the morning
