This is one of the reasons that I chose my path as an Atheist. I don't see why I have to be under control of a higher power that was never proven. Moreover, why can't I choose my own path? Why is I must abide by a path when I know I am a good person? Why is it a sin to enjoy life? AND what makes me such a horrible person just because I don't believe in G-d, yet I have never murdered? There are mass murders who believe in G-d, does that make them a better person than me?

Good question. Religion is a closed system. In other words you believe or you don't. During the christian crusades it is impossiable to determine how far kowledge had been set back. Remember G.Brunno was burned at the stake for publishing his book on the universe. In it he said the points of light in the night sky are other worlds more or less like our own. This was at a time when popular belief had it that there was a thin vale that seperated heaven and earth. The lights represented holes in the vale where the light from heaven would shine through. This ran cross current to religious beliefs at the time and resulted in Brunno being burned at the stake as being judged as of the devil or satan. Galaleo the inventor of the telescope could see first hand the state of the universe and also wrote a book on his findings. However he gave orders that his book was not to be published until he was on his death bed;and thereby escaped the same fate as Brunno endured. Nice story isn't it? Now before the religious devout get on their high horse consider this. It is possiable I believe to have a faith in god the creator;even at a time when bible comes into question and with the theories of other life being probable some where in this galaxy or in some other galaxy. Remember that god said he created life here and nowhere else and that can still hold even if we do find life else where. Today we realize that if life takes place on some suitiable planet it could well happen elsewhere. It would be more surperising if we didn't oneday find life elsewhere than if we don't.

Not all devoutly religious people are terrorists who perform violent acts for the "greater good" like the ones responsible for 9/11. So I guess I would have to say that your "logic" has no merit. If you're not really an atheist, perhaps you should enhance your spiritual existence by going to church or reading the Bible. Maybe in this way you will get to know God, and that will be a better way for you to live life.

One always have faith in something. It's just a matter of what. As you say "having no faith" is really, having faith in your own self - that you are the final say in all things in your life and about your life. So in that sense, you've become your own "god". Is that a better way to live? I'm not so sure.
Yes, there are fanatics in every religion, but that doesn't mean the religion is bad because the fanatics are crazy. Don't judge the religion by its followers... Judge it by its founder. In the case of Christianity, look upon the person of Jesus Christ. Who was he, and why does it matter to me? What does his life and death mean?

If you don't believe in God and follow Him, then YES this life is all you have. That is a sad way to live, however.
I have heard people say that they do not believe ANYTHING in the Bible. Let's consider that for a moment. The Bible says not to kill. Would the world be better off w/o murder? Yes. The Bible says that husbands should love their wives and treat them as kindly as they treat their own selves. Would marriages be better if all husbands did this? You betcha. The Bible says to obey the laws of the land. Would our country be better off if everyone did this? Most definitely. I could go on, but for sake of time and space will not. My point is, if people are honest then they will admit that the standards held by the Bible are the best way to live. The part they do not like is about being responsible for their own sins. It is a part of today's culture to not want to take responsibility for self. It is easier to say 'I don't believe those fairy tales' then to honestly examine things and see if you have any responsibility there.

The Bible tells us that God is not the author of confusion. It is not faith or truth that's complicated. It is the different ideas, religions, and beliefs humans have created to appease their personalities and lifestyles that causes confusion.
There are only two options...you are living according to God's Word, or you're living a lifestyle that pleases Satan. There is no in between, different paths to one God, and all the other things non-believers proclaim.
Remember, that even demons are "spiritual". Religion has nothing to do with having a relationship with God. Church buildings, dogma, and religious titles does not make one a follower of Christ.

Pascal, a French philospher debated this question in his own life. He arrived at what has become called Pascal's Wager:
If I believe, and live accordingly, what do I lose if there is no God? Nothing - I will have lived a worthy, moral life.
If I don't believe, and live accordingly, what do I lose if there is a God - everything.
The odds are on the side of faith. Fanatics exist, sadly, but no more define faith than a foul ball defines baseball.

I don't think it's really possible for one to CHOOSE to have faith or not. It is a matter of convincing yourself. The lack of faith (atheism) is the natural default. You have to CONVINCE yourself (or be convinced) that there is a god/afterlife/so-on. Some people are simply not capable of convincing themselves of this, they think too logically to disregard reason. (Faith being defined here as belief in the absence of reason)
As far as life is concerned... ask yourself this:
Do you need the threat of hell in order to not be an ******? Or can you be civil and live peacefully with your fellow man just for the sake of being an upstanding person?

No, not really because if you think that this one life is the only shot you have at securing your ETERNAL life it would help you make wiser choices about how to live this life. The Bible says our days on earth are as a vapor - they are quickly fleeting. 80 years may seem like a long time to us but it's a drop in the bucket when compared to eternity.
Having no faith is having no hope. Nobody wants to feel hopeless.

NO.
Religious extremist are just as undesirable as secular extremist. They are both extremist. This is why I find my place in Christianity, at no time did Jesus teach us to be violent, or to believe that one is above another, and by belief in Him and His way we have redemption. Which is making the most out of this time we have here.
