I presume that you mean 'good looking & handsome' when you say 'smart'. The problem is that you are not 'shy'; you have some complex vis-a-vis the girls and you are conscious about it.
First of all get rid of your pre conceived notion that you are 'smart' and that is enough to attract girls and take them for guaranteed.
Then, try to treat the girls as human beings, if not better, at least equal to your own gender.
Get out of your 'hyper ego' and start acting normal. Be respectful to the female folks and try to have some good friends.

You have complexity. To improve that, you should forget that you are talking to an opposite sex. Try talking to a girl as you are talking to a guy. Relax, be comfort and be spontaneous. Never plan the subject to talk. It will sound filmy to girls. Start with the general topic such as- " Hi!(with her name) or Good morning! what a beautiful weather today, isn't it?- .................. while you say bye to her dont forget to wish "Riya, (call her by name-she will like it), have a nice day!" she will remember that for the whole day and may get close to you next day. So, your inner fear disappears gradually. Remember, dont be dramatic while conversing to your opposite sex. They wont like it! Good Luck ,Mintool! "Have a wonderful day!!"
