When attending a conference or a convention, people often have to choose individual sessions or "workshops" to attend. In English, we call these "break-out sessions", but what are they called in Spanish? I can come up with a way to describe them, but is there a customary expression that is used in Spanish to refer to them? Thanks!

But in this context I think it can also be translated as "sesiones en grupo"

I doubt that this translates directly to Spanish. The word for workshop would be "taller". I would say something more like "sessiónes simultáneas", to emphasize the fact that they are concurrent.

Here in Costa Rica, we would call those as " Talleres de ... (depending on what it is for)".....
