I have had major problems with my capital one card. They were the only credit card company that would give me a card and if I was only a day late in paying, the charges they put on the card were astronomical. I ended up cutting mine into bits and vowed never to use it again. It was one of the biggest mistakes I made getting their card in the first place.

If you can 100% guarantee that you can pay the limit or the total amount each month, then in fairness, their rates are good but just make sure you are able to keep up the repayments because they are very quick to hand it over to a collection agency who will fleece you and harass you as soon and as often as they can!!

My experience with Capital One has been great. Of course, you have to manage your credit limit and be responsible by making payments on time. Otherwise, like any other bank, you'll get hit with overlimit and late fees. But, if you maintain your account in a positive manner, I've found that they will reward you accordingly. I have 3 different cards with Capital One, which I've had in the average for about 5 years. This year, I wrote to the President of Capital One and asked for relief from any annual fees and my request was granted. In addition, I got an interest rate of 12.9% on all of my current balances, instead of rates between 19% and 23%. In closing, for me, I've had a positive experience with them and found them to be fair and responsive.

I hate Capital One. I was young, naive about credit cards, and didn't even have a job, and they gave me a credit card. I didn't know at the time what 26% APR meant. I was in college and ran the card up to it's limit. I have been paying it off for 3 years b/c of it. I was late on a payment and they charge me a fee, the fee caused me to go over my credit limit and they assessed me another fee. This kept happening, as they charge you the APR each month. When I tried to negotiate with them, telling them that I had been paying them for years, they screwed me over and told me we couldn't settle the matter. They ripe people off and should really be punished for it. When they sent me the application, it was all filled out of me, all I had to do was sign. I was like a 3 year old in a candy store.

Capital one is th WORST credit card out there.
I paid my balance in full and tried closing it.
i called after one month of reqesting to close it...they told me they'll close it at the end of the billing cycle...when i called after two month's and asked them why this was not closed...they told me that a quequest has been put in place when thirty days has passed from the end of the billing cycle...I waited another month and called them...( as I was still receiving bills with $0 balance)...the sustomer rep transferred me to the supervisor who assured me that it should be closed within the same week. This happened about 4 months ago...I haven't received a bill this month..so i assume they finally closed the account after 4 Months I put in the request.

Of all the credit card companies that now exist, the biggest rip off of them all by far is Capital One! Capital One actively solicits debt slaves in colleges; they also sponsor sporting events and have slick commercials that try and make people believe that what they offer is "the no hassle card." Don't be fooled! http://www.gurujeff.com/capital_one_sucks.html

They are not a good card.I heard Clark Howard say they don't always report your good standing to the credit bureaus, but will report if you are a month late.Canceling it may affect your credit negatively.Maybe check out clarkhoward.com.
