that would be great if you could get licensed through an internship, but here in Texas that would NOT be an option. You have to be licensed through a cosmetology school. so, just be prepared for bad news if you find out you cannot do an internship in your state. good luck, make sure it's exactly what you want to do before doing anything drastic. here in texas school is a big joke. it's all about sitting on your butt all day getting the necessary "hours" as opposed to any kind of quality learning. I was licensed a year and a half ago and although I thoroughly enjoy giving treatments, I find the industry to be disappointing. most places don't want to pay you anything but a commission which means you can work alot of hours without making any money (in the beginning, anyway). On top of that, you end up being, essentially, a sales person because most spas expect sales quotas. If you are lucky you will get a job in a dermatologist's office where you are considered a professional and have a salary with benefits. Here, it is hard to get into that end of the business because they want to hire nurses or medical assistants. I am getting out and going into nursing where the money is excellent and the job opportunities overwhelming. i wish you the best- and I hope it's the right thing for you.

very true. check with a near by salon to see if they can offer you an apprenticeship. Otherwise, don't uproot your family. Maybe just move yourself if you know anyone who lives in the cities or board while you study.

If there is a salon near by you can ask them if they are able to give you an apprenticeship. You have to check with your State Board there and see what the requirements are. That way they are able to teach you how to pass the board and get your license. Good luck
