Here is the correct answer. From the day you ship out.... exactly six months after that you will be automatically be promoted to E2 then exactly 9 months after that you will automatically be promoted to E3. Unless you get in trouble or cant pass a PFT or dont qualify on the rifle range. Or you NCO non-recs you for promotion for many reasons. But if you do everything you are supposed to and dont get in trouble, those are the automatic paygrade promotion standards in the Marines. You can always get promoted faster meritoriously. For being an outstanding recruit at the depot like a squad leader or guide also at MCT. You can graduate LCpl out of bootcamp. But you would have to be company honorman. You can also get meritorious promotions in mos school. and in the fleet. But as far as automatic promotions go there are the correct answers. Stay motivated and dont get in TROUBLE. or you will never get promoted. If you go to the Corps be the best Marine in your battalion! Stay hardcore and always be a leader! Semper FI!!!!!!!!

There is no set time frame to be promoted to any rank. Unless you have a contract that states this. I went in on a six year contract and got east coast guarantee, started out as an e-2, was promoted six months later to e-3.

i hate to disagree with everyone who has answered, but E-1 through E3 is automatically advanced based on time in rank, you have to earn E-4 or corporal in the marines.

You EARN promotion, You don't win it in a raffle, or have it gift wrapped and handed to You just for turning up on time. Sounds to Me like You are going to be saluting L Cpl's for most of Your hitch. Didn't anyone tell You how things are done?

never. you cannot get a promotion automatically. You have to work for it. If you keep waiting for promotions to come to you, you will be a Private 2nd class for your entire life. good luck with that.
