Because "smart" people tend to probe and evaluate everything and look at things with such an investigative eye that they can't see simple things. They get used to thinking that answers are always complicated affairs and they get puzzled when the truth is so simple.

Usually because their mind is on other things. It is also possible they are making the simple thing complex by examining it from many angles. Finally, if the simple thing is subjective rather than objective - they may not have a clue about what is being said.

Smart men can often fall into the autistic spectrum. It is a male characteristic. These people may have a vital grasp on in their own sphere of influence while not fully comprehending other aspects of the world around them.

Here's an example. The Sun goes around the Earth. That is simple and I have trouble understanding that.

overlooking is what smart people do. so for simple things most of the time there is small thing that can not be overlooked but when you are smart you tend to overlook them. sometomes it is just because it is well to "simple". i know that sounds crazy but...... smart minds are way different.

Maybe he overthinks things. I am guilty of that sometimes. I will check all of my Internet connection settings, run a bunch of diagnostics, phone the cable company, reboot and reboot, and then discover that the modem is unplugged. The simplest explanations for things sometimes elude me.
