I am also a Christian, and I don't think I hate christians, but I sure do disrespect Bubba Preachers who think they represent God, to the extent that they interpret bible verses so as to build their empires instead of trying to help us understand the teachings of Jesus.

Adherents of some religions/creeds still think they are better & worth more than the rest - If they do not get their way with thinking that they are worth more they hate.

Western Society is largely based on humanitarian ideas coming from Judaism > Christian & Greek philosophical bases.

Neither Jews nor Christians nor too brainy ppl are popular :-)

Western society is leading politically, richer more powerfull - so part of the hate is envy.

The other thing - terrible religious wars were waged between catholics and protestants about 300 years ago. Only after ppl realized the costs of hatred Western Society stopped hating so much as some ppl still do. Only after that Christian Societies realized why the Master had said: love thy neighbor.

And this proud idea that i expressed makes others also hate us:

as an outsider: would You not hate me if i told You that we had been like You "haters" 300 years ago and You would mature to become like us ;-)

Arsenic, your answer is excellent! I applaud you! There is not much I can add, except that I hope that at least one or two Christians will get some insight and understanding from what you wrote.

By the way...I want to add that there are several others who gave excellent answers, and they include quenter, mathieubg, N. H. Baritone, and Randy T.

Christians, if you honestly want to understand why non-Christians get upset with you, read the answers that these people wrote, and some of the answers I have written on other questions as well.

Pamela, you hit the nail right on the head. Your attitude is the very attitude that upsets people. You are so convinced that you are right and we are all wrong that you are spiritually blinded.

Christians have a bad rep through out history.killing people who didn't follow their ways...religious battles leading to many deaths and so on.
Most people who hate Christians do so usually because they had a bad experience from those old school fire and brimstone hypocritical Christians. You know the ones...
They try to force it on you, pound it into your brain.....everything you do is going to send you to hell or is the work of the devil. Some Christians pretend to be perfect and no one is perfect. They can be full of gossip as well. And they insist their way is the only way...anything else is wrong.......making them appear close minded or narrow minded.
This gives non-Christians the assumption that all Christians act this way. There for they are assuming that all Christians think they are holier than thou.....so non-believers REALLY love to see a Christian screw up or make a mistake.lol
All they need is for a real kind loving polite open minded Christian to prove them otherwise is all.:)

I was raised catholic and though I'm no authority or anything of the kind but here's my take on it.

There's always been a certain amount of snobishness from christians in the "we're right your wrong, we're saved you'll burn in hell unless we save you" kind of way. That mentalitty has also been the the reason for untold cruelty to non-christians because "hey who cares they aren't christians anyway,".

Historically they've wiped out hundreds of different cultures all in the name of "god". Commited genocide, simply because some wouldn't change thier beliefs. Radical interpretations of the bible just like any other holy book has lead to acts of terrorism.

There's also been massive abuses of power by the church, coverups of kids being molested and priest not even being thrown out, but simply moved to a new comunity that didn't know.

Christianity today is no better just look at all those TV ministries brining in millions of dollars with thier pay to pray and god will answer you atitudes. These guys hold themselves up as moral pillars and then whoops out comes the "I have sinned speach"

They are stuck in a more than outdated mentality of repression rather than a celebration of what life has to offer. They would rather have teenagers give birth than allow contraception and proper sexual education. Thier stance on abortion and end of life rights are applied universally rather than individually as they should be.

All in all I'm not a big fan of christians, or any religion for that matter. As for my personal beliefs, I might have been raised catholic, but I don't believe a verse of it. I believe in what makes sense, is logical and can be proven, so you could call me an aethist

People with hatred toward anyone are just being hateful. I am atheist but have no "hatred" toward Christians.

I don't hate Christians. As a matter of fact, a Christian on this site earlier today said that if someone says that atheists hate Christians, they are guilty of spreading false witness, i.e., breaking one of the 10 commandments.

I am not willing to have Christians contribute to the ongoing reduction in human and intellectual rights.

Such as:
Fighting to restrict the rights of gay people
Fighting to restrict the rights women's choices
Fighting to restrict the teaching of science
Fighting to impose Christian prayer on non-Christians
Fighting to ensconce a special place for Christianity in the law

I know it's hard to believe, but there are actually Christians who act like horses sphincters. These garbage mouthed bottom feeders give those people who really do try to follow in the footsteps of Jesus a bad name.

Notice I did not say all Christians, my parents are Christian, they are not like that.

Shocker that a christian wouldn't get the hatred. I will try and limit my answer to just the major points. Non-inclusive: if you don't agree with christians they believe you're going to hell. Sheep-syndrome: i choose to analyze my own condition in the universe instead of blindly following someone else's thoughts. hippocracy - how come so many pro-life (anti-abortion) people are pro death penalty? history - christianity has a very violent history of torture and oppression. Far-fetched - it is more likely that Jesus was the bastard son of a roman soldier than the product of immaculate conception. Powerful - let's face it, christians are running this country whether or not anyone likes it. Annoying - the last time I visited the Lincoln memorial some christian twerp with a loud speaker invaded my enjoyment of the scene. Up-tight - I like to kick back and enjoy a few vices here and there and i don't want to hear that some christ sheep think its a sin. Ubiquitous - you really can't get away from the christ sheep. I even have some in my family. Under-age recruitment - its a sick joke that some baptists are unusual in that they wait until a child is 9 years old so that they can decide for themselves it they want to be a christian. Most christ sheep make that choice for their offspring while they are infants. I don't see much difference from pedaphilia. Anty-intellectual - the last thing we need is for a bunch of people to reject the scientific method because of some inconvenient realities that science has dug up. yeah go ahead and argue against evolution but don't wage a political war against this theory with official sounding things like the scientific institute for creationism studies. Yeah it works but it really burns me to see someone reject the overwhelming evidence and still claim to be using the scientific approach and to use political connections to mandate an essentially religious point of view be taught in public (taxpayer funded) schools. Personal reasons - My wife and I were married by her uncle preacher. Before the wedding we met with him and explained we were not Christians but were okay with most of the christian ceremony. I specifically asked him not to include in our vows that my wife had to obey me. He agreed but decided to include it during the ceremony anyway. I could hear laughter from some of my friends which was fine and it was kind of funny in a quaint weddings are kind of corny way . . . but I love my wife very much and this man made a liar out of her just as she was joining me forever. We didn't let it ruin our moment but I won't forget and I know that sometime I will have the opportunity to bring this up. In other words I'm looking forward to accepting the annual invite to go hiking with his church group. (Just be ready at the campfire for a peice of my whiskey fueled mind Uncle Steve.) Bullet proof to criticism - I am betting that you can not right now bring yourself to admit that even one of my points is valid because once one stone is removed the whole house begins to fall. Give it a shot if you have an answer for every one of my points send me an email.

Hatred comes from fear....fear of the unknown, the mysterious. It also comes from ignorance and arrogance. People believe that they are right and others are wrong. We all need to accept the fact that everybody has their own path to follow and not force our beliefs, culture, or agenda on others. I'm all for spiritual unity not religious uniformity.

I am Native American and not Christian.
