That is a really interesting question. I do think that in fact, yes, those who follow some sort of belief of a god, what ever religion they so choose, they do want to be on the winning team, even if doing so unconsciously. We as animals, are partial to competition, some more than others.
You cannot deny the fact that almost every religion promises great things to the followers, and the others who do not follow the religion, well, they don't have it so good after they die. No eternal beautiful gardens for them, everlasting loving life, 70 virgins, whatever. Instead, they rot in hell, burn, or get totured. Yes, some religions are forgiving in this aspect, but the majority of them carry along with their dogma a sort of shitty outcome if one does not follow the rules and/or way of life.
I choose to not be part of this particular rat race. I am just thankful I am here, healthy, happy. Will be glad to join the dirt when I die.

We believe in God but it doesn't hurt knowing we are on the winning team too!

I don't know. I have prayed before, but really what does my opinion matter on this area? I wouldn't know. I try to believe, then I see sometimes what's the point of believing and praying when nothing goes good for me. I curse God sometimes. I want to believe in God hoping that He is the right side to be on. Then again, sometimes I think religion is only a way for giving people a hope for afterlife.

I guess it depends on the person. I want to believe in God and i do. I am glad that you refered to that as the winning team because that is true. I also believe that God does judge by our hearts and you can't fool God so if they just want to be on the winning team and don't do anything to grow in God's word or be a missionary for him and don't accept him as their savior- then they will go burn in hell. To put it as bluntly as i can. So don't just want to be on the winning team- accept Jesus as the only Savior and Divine Creator of all things and go to Heaven.

Most of you people do not understand the meaning of this question. In fact this is a very good question. Most of us tend to adopt a religion that we r born in without considering any other religion. So automatically if you adopt your parent's religion...its not really you who's chosen it for urself. Being on the 'Winning Team' simply means that when you people argue with people of other religions...do you even consider his/her religion? Or do you argue just for the sake of winning against him/her? Have u ever given a thought to research about another religion without any grudges? Perhaps you were born in the wrong religion..dont u think about that? SO....are you really a God fearing person? or r u just trying to make your team win???

God knows our true intendsions so even if we are just believing just to be on the "winning" team God knows. he would knows its not the truth and therefore they are not on the "winning" team.
some people really want to believe but for others it could be cause of karma or so they can fit in or just for the "winning" team. it all depends on the person. thats all

Don't know about others but as God a witness over everything, I truly believe in the One Alone AlMighty all Capable God, the Lord of us all.
The Lord of Abraham
The Ahura of Zoroaster
The Eishwar of Krishna
The Jehovah of Moses
The God of Jesus
The Allah of Muhammad
is the AlMighty One Alone God Only who is the Creator and Nourisher of us all.
THE SUPREME LORD
Who said in the Godly voice
“I, and I alone, am God
and all other gods
(or goddesses and demigods)
are unreal.”
(Bible Duet. 32:39)
“Worship no god but Me”
(Exodus 20:3)
“Worship no god but Me”,
clearly means that:
“There is no god but Me.”
The same Words has been revealed by the Lord through the Lord’s Revelation, Al-Quran:
“There is no god but Allah
(The One Alone God)”
so, PEACE here in this world and there in the Hereafter, can be ensured through obedience of the Lord, the Holy One alone; in accordance with the Lord’s commandments, given in all the Scriptures, already, possessed by the people of the Scriptures.
Therefore, the Lord of Moses (PBUH) and the Lord of Muhammad (PBUH) and the Lord of Jesus (PBUH) and the Lord of Krishna (PBUH) is the same, Alone Lord who is known as Our God, the One and the Alone and the Absolute Holy.
and God has said that those who believe in the One Alone God will come out victorious. We should just try our best to serve God , honour God and Praise God Only and no partner, son, or mate should be ascribed unto God as a sharer in Gods Soverengity. God is King and God Alone RULES in the real sense!

it's been said that we have an innate need to worship a superior being, even tribes with no civilization have their gods. we the people in modern society make gods constantly out of people we admire we just dont notice, the people who believe in THE God have simply noticed their other gods cant do anything for them. there is no right answer of course, it's all in the heart of the believer.

I think people do want to believe in God. Because they find something meaningful to it. Also they probably have witness other people finding God and noticed how they changed for the Good.

The key word about "Believing in God" is give them a purpose in their lives or direction like a goal setting so that their behaviour can be adjusted for doing more good than not at all.
