I suspect it to be a type of diet pill, but not sure what kind

The pill that you have is most likely phentermine, a prescription drug given out for weight loss. I have access to a variety of drug databases and the caplet that you describe does not show up. Are you positive that the caplet is a prescription drug? Are you positive that its a capsule and not a tablet? I know that you can buy many different versions of phentermine off the internet, that manufacturers claim is the real deal. If you give me exactly what it looks like (color, shape, dosage form, manufacturer), with the exact imprint on EACH SIDE, then I would be able to tell you what it is. There are quite a few blue speckled pills out there, ranging from over the counter cough caplets, to Lortab, to phentermine. The one thing that catches me off guard is that most of the manufacturers of phentermine pills do not have the imprint of PE on them. Even though phentermine does come in a 37.5mg strength, it still seems kind of shady that not a single pill comes with that imprint, which leads me to believe it could have been purchased from one of those shady internet sites that try to sell the general public a diet pill that is not regulated by the FDA.
Also, you could try taking it into your local pharmacy to help with identifying the pill. Even though there are privacy laws in place now and we can be hesitant about giving out drug information to parents who come in and try to identify pills their child might be taking, its still worth a shot if you really want to know what you have.
If you give me more information, I can look it up for you, or if not, I hope this at least helps with your search!

I just looked through my PILL book which gives the names
of every drug and what its intended for/ dosage, etc. It also
has colored pictures and exact size of all well known meds.
I do not see yours listed. There IS a PCE pill.

Of course you know you should not take it unless its been
prescribed for you. The fastest way to find out is to show
it to a pharmacist.

Glad that it's not a 37.5 inch pill. If you don't know where it came from and packaging is gone, I suggest you throw it in the nearest trash can.

Flush it down the toilet, it's better to be safe than sorry.
