Army and Navy are WORDS, they don't stand for anything... though many things have been made up using those letters, none of the ones I know can mentioned here.
G.I = General Issue. When you are in the Army you are "ISSUED" things that you need, like a uniform, your weapons, gas mask, mess kit (that's your knife, fork, spoon, bowl, cup, etc) and your towels, sleeping bag, boots, etc.
Things that are issued generally, (i.e. everybody gets one) are listed as "General Issue Items". Your inventory slip would say "Socks, green, woolen, G.I."
Since soldiers often feel that they are "items" during WW2 they started calling themselves "G.I." as in "Conarty, Michael, Private First Class, G.I."
ROTC is the "Reserve Officer's Training Corps." It is a program you take in college. Some of the ROTC cadets get free tution and books. If you complete the program you become an Officer in the Army Reserve. It trains Officers for the Reserves, so it is called Reserve Officer Training Corps.
(The Reserves are like the National Guard. They have regular jobs most of the time but can get called up to fight if there is a war. Lots of Reserve soliders are in Iraq and Afganistan right now. The difference is that the National Guard troops belong to the State Govenor, and the Army Reserve can only be called up by the President. This is why the National Guard does a lot of emergency and disaster work.)
USO is United Service Organization. It is NOT part of the military. It is a volunteer group that helps solders, primarily by doing nice things for them. One of the things they do is have a lounge or help desk at the airport for soldiers and sailors. Another is they arrange for entertainers to take tours through the war zones where they give special shows for the troops. Bob Hope became famious for doing USO shows during the 40s, and kept doing them till the 90s. Al Franken (the liberal commedian who used to work on Saturday Night Live) is a BIG USO performer, believe it or not.

GI or G.I. is a term describing a US soldier or an item of their equipment. The term is often thought to be an initialism of "Government Issue" but the origin of the term is in fact "Galvanized Iron" after the letters "GI" that were stamped on US Army metal trash cans made from it. It was later assumed that GI stood for Government Issue and the term was applied to other equipment and the soldiers themselves. Alternative interpretations include General Issue, General Infantry, Ground Infantry, General Invasion, and Government Inductee.
The United Service Organizations Inc. (USO) is a private, nonprofit organization that provides morale and recreational services to members of the U.S. military
R.O.T.C is Reserve Officers' Training Corps in the US.
"Army" comes from Latin 'armata' ("act of arming").
I have no idea wat N.A.V.Y rele has to expand to....
but i guess like ARMY, NAVY has no Expansion.......
